Hon. Edward Abambire Bawa has officially transitioned from his role as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to take up his new position as the Managing Director and Group CEO of GOIL.

In a statement marking the handover, Hon. Bawa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve Ghana’s energy sector in both capacities and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the nation’s energy agenda.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Management and dedicated staff of GNPC for their unwavering support, collaboration, and commitment to the corporation’s mission.

“Together, we have navigated challenges, pursued growth, and made meaningful contributions to the sector,”

This transition comes at a crucial time for Ghana’s petroleum sector, as GNPC continues to play a pivotal role in managing the country’s oil and gas resources.

In his statement, Hon. Bawa thanked His Excellency, the President of the Republic, for entrusting him with leadership roles in both GNPC and GOIL.

He described his tenure at GNPC as a significant learning experience and commended the corporation’s management and staff for their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to the corporation’s vision.

During his tenure at GNPC, albeit short, Bawa played a role in steering the corporation through various operational and strategic challenges.

GNPC has been at the forefront of ensuring Ghana maximizes benefits from its petroleum resources, engaging in exploration, production, and infrastructure development in the sector.

His leadership period saw the corporation continue its efforts in improving local participation in the oil and gas industry, a core part of Ghana’s energy policy.

Under Bawa’s guidance, GNPC also maintained its focus on collaborations with international oil companies, domestic capacity building, and policy advocacy for sustainable energy development.

These efforts aligned with the broader goal of ensuring energy security and economic development for Ghana.

In his farewell message, Bawa extended his appreciation to GNPC’s management and staff for their collaboration and support during his tenure.

He acknowledged their efforts in driving the corporation’s mission and expressed confidence that his successor, Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, would continue to strengthen GNPC’s operations and contributions to Ghana’s energy sector.

Hon. Bawa’s transition from GNPC to GOIL comes at a time when Ghana is seeking to balance its commitment to fossil fuel development with the global energy transition.

With his background in policy and energy management, he is well-positioned to steer GOIL towards embracing innovation and sustainability.

“As I embark on this new journey with GOIL, I look forward to fostering strong partnerships, driving innovation, and contributing to the company’s continued success.

“The energy industry remains a critical pillar of our national development, and I remain committed to working towards a more sustainable and prosperous future.”

Hon. Edward Abambire Bawa, GOIL Group CEO

Hon. Bawa also emphasized the importance of innovation, partnerships, and sustainability in shaping Ghana’s energy future. His leadership is expected to play a critical role in enhancing GOIL’s competitiveness while reinforcing national energy security and economic resilience.

Hon. Edward Abambire Bawa’s transition from GNPC to GOIL marks a significant development in Ghana’s energy sector.

His leadership at GOIL is anticipated to bring strategic direction and innovative solutions to the company’s operations, ensuring its continued growth in a rapidly evolving industry.

As Ghana works towards energy security and sustainability, his role as Group CEO of GOIL will be pivotal in shaping the sector’s trajectory in the coming years.
