GNPC CEO Engages SPE-Ghana

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah has hosted a delegation from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Ghana Chapter at Petroleum House in Tema, in a significant move aimed at enhancing Ghana’s oil and gas industry. 

Mr. Ntow Amoah praised SPE’s ongoing efforts, highlighting their alignment with GNPC’s broader objective of developing local expertise and empowering the next generation of energy professionals.  

“SPE’s commitment to talent development and technical knowledge transfer is critical to the future of Ghana’s petroleum sector.

“As GNPC ramps up efforts to develop marginal fields, we require research-driven solutions that strengthen our capabilities as a national oil company.”

He reiterated GNPC’s dedication to sustaining the partnership, urging SPE to tailor its programs to meet Ghana-specific challenges in the oil and gas value chain. 

The GNPC CEO also underscored the importance of enhancing research collaborations, particularly in areas that support Ghana’s exploration and production activities.

He encouraged SPE to engage with GNPC’s strategic initiatives, citing ongoing projects that could benefit from technical expertise. 

As part of GNPC’s strategic priorities, Mr. Ntow Amoah highlighted the Voltaian Basin Project, describing it as a flagship exploration venture with the potential to unlock significant investment opportunities.  

He stressed the need for advanced research and risk mitigation efforts to maximize Ghana’s untapped petroleum reserves. 

Additionally, Mr. Ntow Amoah showcased the GNPC Research and Technology Centre (RaTC), which serves as a hub for technological innovation within the oil and gas sector.

“We welcome SPE to engage further with GNPC’s research initiatives and support our mission to advance technology-driven solutions for the industry.”

The delegation, led by Derrick E. K. Klutsey, engaged in high-level discussions focused on fostering industry engagement, capacity-building initiatives, and knowledge exchange within the sector. 

The engagement between GNPC and SPE Ghana signals a shared commitment to strengthening the petroleum industry’s competitive edge while ensuring sustainable growth.

The meeting also emphasized the need to bridge the skills gap within the industry. With Ghana’s oil sector evolving rapidly, the focus remains on building local expertise, reducing dependence on foreign technical support, and boosting indigenous participation in oil and gas projects. 

During the meeting, Fiifi Nyarkoh Otoo, Special Projects Chair of SPE Ghana, provided a detailed overview of the organization’s mission and its contributions to the industry.  

He highlighted key programs such as the Energy4Me educational initiative, which promotes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, as well as efforts to improve Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) within the sector. 

“We are committed to equipping the next generation of industry professionals with the necessary technical expertise and leadership skills.

“Through our programs, including industry conferences and STEM outreach, we aim to bridge the knowledge gap and inspire innovation in Ghana’s oil and gas industry.”

The discussion also touched on the importance of SPE’s role in fostering knowledge-sharing platforms that allow professionals to engage with global industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements. 

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment between GNPC and SPE Ghana Chapter to leverage strategic partnerships that enhance industry competitiveness and sustainability. 

The engagement between GNPC and SPE is expected to yield practical solutions for Ghana’s oil and gas industry, reinforcing the nation’s ability to harness its hydrocarbon potential while equipping professionals with world-class expertise.
