A Boost for Diaspora Remittances As Taptap Send Restarts Operations in Ghana

Taptap Send, a prominent global fintech company, has officially resumed its money transfer services in Ghana following a brief hiatus.

This announcement marks a significant milestone for Ghanaians in the diaspora who rely on the platform for secure and affordable remittance services. The resumption comes after the Bank of Ghana lifted a temporary suspension related to the company’s newly launched wallet product.

Taptap Send’s services faced a month-long suspension as directed by the Bank of Ghana, citing compliance issues surrounding its wallet product. The suspension, though disruptive, underscored the regulator’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of financial transactions within Ghana’s growing fintech landscape.

On December 4, 2024, ahead of the expected timeline, the Bank of Ghana granted the company clearance to resume operations. This decision was welcomed by Taptap Send and its extensive user base, particularly members of the Ghanaian diaspora across the UK, Europe, Canada, the United States, and the UAE.

Meanwhile, Darryl Mawutor Abraham, Head of Taptap Send Africa, expressed his gratitude to customers.

“We are excited to resume transfers to Ghana for the thousands of Ghanaians who have come to rely on Taptap Send for their money transfers over the years. We truly appreciate the patience, love, support, and understanding of our customers during the suspension period, and we remain committed to serving the Ghanaian diaspora in full compliance with all applicable regulations.”

A Trusted Platform

Founded with a mission to make cross-border money transfers seamless and cost-effective, Taptap Send operates as a digital-only platform. It has built a strong reputation for delivering fast, secure, and affordable remittance services, making it a lifeline for many families in Ghana. The company’s adherence to stringent regulatory standards ensures its operations remain trustworthy and reliable.

Taptap Send’s global footprint spans over 40 countries, including key markets such as the UK, Europe, the USA, Canada, and the UAE. Its commitment to fostering financial inclusion aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of reducing remittance costs to under 3%.

The resumption of Taptap Send’s services is a major relief for Ghanaians who depend on remittances from loved ones abroad. These funds often cover essential expenses such as education, healthcare, and housing, while also supporting small businesses and local economies.

By enabling quick and affordable transfers, Taptap Send helps to bridge the gap between families separated by borders. The platform also plays a crucial role in formalizing remittance flows, thereby contributing to Ghana’s macroeconomic stability and growth.

The brief suspension highlighted the evolving nature of Ghana’s fintech landscape, where regulatory oversight plays a pivotal role in fostering innovation while safeguarding consumer interests. Taptap Send’s swift compliance with regulatory requirements reflects its commitment to operating responsibly in one of its most important markets.

Ghana’s fintech sector has experienced rapid growth in recent years, with digital platforms like Taptap Send leading the charge. By offering efficient money transfer services, the company not only supports individual users but also reinforces the broader financial ecosystem.

A Renewed Commitment

The lifting of the suspension has positioned Taptap Send to continue serving the Ghanaian diaspora with renewed vigor. With its operations restored, the company remains steadfast in its mission to reduce inequality by equalizing access to financial services.

In a statement, the company reaffirmed its dedication to providing value to its customers saying “Ghana is a very important market to us and is one of the over 40 countries to which we offer money transfer services. We are committed to serving the Ghanaian diaspora and ensuring their needs are met efficiently and affordably.”

As Taptap Send resumes operations, the focus remains on delivering excellent service while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The company’s ability to adapt and thrive in a competitive fintech environment underscores its resilience and commitment to its users.

The return of Taptap Send is more than just a business milestone—it is a testament to the vital role remittance platforms play in connecting families, empowering communities, and driving economic progress. For Ghanaians abroad, the service represents a trusted bridge to their homeland, ensuring that their hard-earned money reaches those who matter most.

As the fintech industry continues to evolve, Taptap Send’s unwavering focus on innovation and customer satisfaction promises to solidify its place as a leader in the global remittance space.
