Non-Oil Bilateral Trade Hits US$2.7 billion- Ghana and UAE

Ghana and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hits 2.7 billion dollars in relation to its Non-oil trade transactions in 2022.

This total up to a 56 per cent (56%) increase over the 1.512 billion dollars gained in 2019.

Mr. Amer Al Alawi, the country’s Ambassador to Ghana, speaking at the UAE’s 51st National Day Celebration in Accra expressed that, the successful achievement of the steady growth in the non-oil trade transactions was a testimony of how fast both countries had developed bilateral relations.

According to Mr. Amer Al Alawi, as part of the deepening diplomatic ties and advancing economic progress and prosperity, the UAE and Ghana had, this year, signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoU).

Mr. Al Alawi also revealed that, both countries agreed to set up a Ghana Investment and Promotion Centre office in the UAE to promote and attract more investment to Ghana.

 “Both countries also agreed to put up the Emirati-Ghanaian Business Council and promote economic and technical cooperation,” he said.

Mr. Alawi indicated that, the two countries are to have information exchange and technology equipment, geared towards improving investment opportunities and technology advancement.

Establishment Of A Vocational Training Centre and Health Facilities

According to Mr. Amer Al Alawi, as part of celebrating five decades of existence, the Arabian country, among other projects launched in Ghana, has built a vocational training centre to empower Ghanaian women who want to become entrepreneurs with skills, support with funds as capital, as well as a sound place to undertake their training for the purpose of effective learning.

Mr. William Owuraku-Aidoo, the Deputy Minister of Energy, expressed his gratitude for the remarkable initiatives and developments of the United Arab Emirates since 1971, which has manifested in a growing relationship, shared objectives and economic development of Ghana.

Not limited to that, Mr. Owuraku-Aidoo commended the United Arab Emirates for establishing various health facilities in parts of the country and the rehabilitation of the Trade Fair site.

According to him, this has played a significant role in the mitigation of illness and disasters because of their particular function in treating the sick, injured and handling outbreak of diseases. “This has gone a long way to improve the health outcomes of the citizens in Ghana,” he said.

“More bilateral investments in trade, businesses and other project transactions are needed as Ghana hosts the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).”
