Absa Bank Ghana Honored for Outstanding Contribution to Agricultural Sector Growth

In a notable acknowledgment of its unwavering commitment to fostering agricultural development, Absa Bank Ghana has been honored with multiple accolades at the Ghana Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (GIRSAL) Partner Financial Institution Excellence Awards 2023.

Absa Bank emerged as the overall winner across four pivotal categories, underscoring its exceptional support to the agricultural sector. The categories in which the bank triumphed include: Highest Total Number of GIRSAL Guaranteed Agricultural Credit; Highest Total Value of GIRSAL Guaranteed Agricultural Credit; Best Quality Agricultural Credit Guarantee Applications and Best Overall Partner Financial Institution of the Year 2023.

The awards were based on a rigorous assessment of the institutions’ performance in areas such as the volume and value of agricultural loans provided, the quality of loan applications, and their participation in GIRSAL’s Technical Assistance and Advisory services.

“We are truly honoured to be recognised by GIRSAL for our commitment to supporting the agricultural sector in Ghana. These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of Ghanaian farmers,” said Mr. Kobla Nyaletey, Executive Director for Retail & Business Banking at Absa Bank Ghana LTD.

“Our commitment to the growth of the sector is absolute. Agriculture is essential to Ghana’s economic developmentand the high-risk challenges associated with the sector motivate us to continuously find pragmatic innovations, such as the partnership with GIRSAL, to improve access to funding for the sector, because we see opportunities in every farmer’s story,” Mr. Kobla Nyaletey added.

GIRSAL is a non-banking financial institution established to de-risk agricultural financing and stimulate increased lending to the agricultural sector, by financial institutions in Ghana.

These accolades reflect Absa Bank’s comprehensive dedication to advancing the agricultural sector through robust financial support and extensive capacity-building initiatives. The bank’s commitment extends across the entire agricultural value chain, encompassing processors, aggregators, input dealers, and small-holder farmers serving as out-growers for agribusinesses.

Promoting Risk-Sharing and Enhancing Access to Credit

GIRSAL, the organization bestowing the awards, serves as a pivotal entity in promoting risk-sharing and enhancing access to credit for players in the agricultural landscape. Absa Bank’s exceptional performance and strategic initiatives have not only facilitated access to credit but have also contributed significantly to the growth and sustainability of agribusinesses.

The recognition of Absa Bank as the Best Overall Partner Financial Institution of the Year 2023 underscores its pivotal role in driving positive change within the agricultural sector. The bank’s holistic approach, combining financial services with capacity-building efforts, has positioned it as a key player in supporting the sector’s expansion and resilience.

Absa Bank has been a strong partner of GIRSAL since its establishment in 2019 and has played a key role in helping increase access to finance for Ghanaian farmers.

As Absa Bank continues to play a leading role in shaping the future of agriculture in Ghana, these awards serve as a testament to its impactful contributions and commitment to the overall prosperity of the agricultural community. The GIRSAL Partner Financial Institution Excellence Awards 2023 stand as a recognition of Absa Bank’s exemplary efforts in fostering sustainable growth and innovation within the agricultural sector.
