In a dazzling ceremony held in Accra, Forward Titans proudly clinched the top spot in the Bank of Ghana’s inaugural eCedi hackathon, solidifying their status as pioneers in the realm of digital innovation.
The fervor and anticipation surrounding the event culminated in Forward Titans walking away with the grand prize of 500,000 eCedi.
The competition, which unfolded under the watchful eyes of the Bank of Ghana and its esteemed technology partner EMTECH Solutions, began its journey on October 6, 2023. This marked the commencement of a riveting exploration into the realm of possibilities that the e-Cedi, Ghana’s digital currency, holds.
The triumphant Forward Titans were joined on the podium by the first runner-up, Nokofio, who displayed exceptional ingenuity and was duly rewarded with 300,000 eCedi.
Meanwhile, Pay Code secured the position of the second runner-up, earning themselves a commendable 200,000 eCedi. The distribution of prizes underscored the competitive spirit and talent showcased throughout the hackathon.
The hackathon Itself served as a melting pot for creators, developers, and entrepreneurs, drawing them together to weave groundbreaking solutions anchored in the potential of the e-Cedi. The focus areas outlined by the Bank of Ghana shed light on the functionalities and versatility that the digital currency aspires to embody, sparking creativity and innovation.
The Governor Conveys His Appreciation
Dr. Ernest Addison, the governor of the Bank of Ghana, conveyed his appreciation for the enthusiastic response from creative minds and innovators from across countries and continents. Speaking at the ceremony, he expressed, “This is the maiden hackathon organized by the Bank of Ghana, and we are glad that it has received an overwhelming response from enthusiastic creative minds and innovators across countries and continents.”
As the October 20, 2023 deadline for the submission of the Innovation Concept Notes (ICN) approached, a staggering 88 ICNs flooded in. Subsequently, the field was narrowed down to 68 for the pitch day.
Undaunted by the challenge, 62 participants embraced the opportunity to pitch their visionary solutions. Post the intense Pitch Day, a select group of 10 innovations emerged as the cream of the crop, earning the right to progress to the prestigious Demonstration Day.
The resonance of the e-Cedi hackathon extends beyond the winners’ circle, echoing the collaborative spirit and collective enthusiasm that enveloped the event.
