UBA Ghana hosted a special International Women’s Day event on March 8, 2023 to empower women to embrace equity while also reaffirming its mission to champion gender equality across the various bank networks.
The Talk was dubbed: ‘Thriving in your career and secrets to honing on your personal brand’ and was streamed on all UBA Ghana social media handles, hosted by Head of Personal Banking at UBA Ghana, Raheemat Boakye.
The event hosted two of the country’s influential and keynote speakers, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Salt and Light Ministries and Dzigbordi Dosoo, a Personal Branding Expert and High-Performance Certified Coach.
Raheemat set the tone for the discussion with the keynote speakers by asking them to share their views on the impact of women’s day and the theme for the year ‘Embrace Equity’.
The first submission came from Rev. Dr. Aryee , who shared her views on what embracing equity is. According to her, embracing equity is:
“Recognizing our equalities and yet our uniqueness by being different and for women to take a notch higher.
“As a woman, professionalism should be a mandate and women should be promoted based on hard work and not mere favors or recommendations. In addition to your profession, one can have a side business to enable women to be economically empowered.”
Rev. Dr. Aryee
Buttressing on the earlier point raised by Rev. Dr. Aryee’s point on embracing equity, Dzigbordi on her part noted that:
“It doesn’t matter your background and qualification. What you have to recognize is that, you have that authority to serve. I have always embraced equity and I encourage others to embrace it.”
Dzigbordi Dosoo
Continuing the discussion, Dzigbordi shared some principles of personal branding, saying:
“When we define personal branding, these are the four things you should look up for: what you stand for and your values; secondly, what you are best at; thirdly, the things you master and lastly, putting authenticity through all of them.
“Everyone has a brand, but it takes one to build it up. Allow yourself to be imperfect and learn to be perfect. Grow yourself and remember weakness is part of your brand. Never let anyone speak for you if you can’t back it with your merits.”
