Captain Smart Makes Wild Allegations Against Akuffo-Addo

Captain Smart

Controversial Radio and TV Presenter, Captain Smart has made some wild allegations against the incumbent President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.

Captain Smart alleged that President Nana Akuffo-Addo is a Gay activist and it’s the reason he doesn’t want to sign the Anti-Gay Bill presented by Parliament.

A few weeks ago, the Parliament passed the Anti-Gay Bill waiting for the President’s endorsement.

The Bill bans LGBTQIA+ activities and criminalizes its promotion, advocacy, and funding.

Persons caught in the act would be subjected to a 6 months to 3 year jail term with promoters and sponsors of the act bearing a 3 to 5 year jail term.

Ahead of the passage, sponsors of the Bill filed a motion for a further consideration stage of the Bill.

The lead sponsor, Samuel Nartey George proposed that clauses 10 and 11 of the anti-LGBTQIA+ which deals with editorial policies of media firms be subjected to article 12 of the 1992 constitution which provides for the freedom of the media.

The House approved the amendments as part of the Bill.

The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin on his part also filed a motion for clause 12 of the Bill which deals with the funding of LGBTQIA+ activities to be subjected to the constitution but that was nullified by the House.

Instead of signing the Bill, the President released a press conference indicating why Ghanaians have to wait for his verdict.

President Akuffo-Addo mentioned that in the circumstances, netizens must hold hands, and await the decision of the Court before any action is taken, adding that the institutions of the Ghanaian state will determine the future trajectory of the rule of law and human rights compliance in the country.

“I am that last week’s bi-partisan passage by Parliament of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, on a Private Member’s motion, has raised considerable anxieties in certain quarters of the diplomatic community and amongst some friends of Ghana that she may be turning her back on her, hitherto, enviable, longstanding record on human rights observance and attachment to the rule of law. I want to assure you that no such back-sliding will be contemplated or occasioned,” part of the statement read.

Reacting to this, Captain Smart claimed that the reason Nana Addo hasn’t signed the Bill is because he is an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Captain Smart showered praises on the late, Professor John Evans Atta Mills for being the best President in Ghana ever.

The TV Presenter disclosed that the late President was bold enough to stand against the LGBTQIA+ community.

He revealed how Professor Atta Mills rejected the loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that had strings attached to them.

In 2011, the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills rejected the United Kingdom’s (UK) threat to cut aid if he refused to legalize LGBTQIA+.

The late Professor Atta Mills explained that the UK could not impose its values on Ghana and he would never legalize homosexuality.

UK Prime Minister, David Cameron asserted that aid would be cut to countries that failed to respect gay rights.

The late Professor Mills told Mr. Cameron that he was entitled to his views but did not have the right to “direct to other sovereign nations as to what they should do”.

He made it clear Ghana’s “societal norms” were different from those in the UK.

“I, as president, will never initiate or support any attempt to legalize homosexuality in Ghana,” the late Mr. Atta Mills said.
