Chef Smith

The GWR has confirmed that Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith popularly known as Chef Smith, does not hold the the Guinness World Record (GWR) title for the longest cooking marathon (individual).

In a message by the GWR via X, the GWR maintained that the current record holder for the longest cooking by an individual is still Alan Fisher from Ireland.

“We can confirm this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate. The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan from 28 September to 3 October 2023.”

GWR

Chef Smith held his press conference in Accra on Tuesday, July 2, at the La Palm Beach Hotel to announce his claim.

He hoisted a banner at the entrance of the conference room where he made the announcement.

The banner read: “Press Conference. Unveiling the New World Cook-a-thon Record Holder. Millenium Chef Smith from Ghana with an incredible 802 hours, 25 minutes to dethrone Irish King, Alan Fisher.”

The chef also expressed his joy in a Facebook post and went as far as presenting a certificate to defend his claim of breaking the record for the longest cooking.

“It’s with great pleasure and honor that we inform the general public and the media of the press conference of Millennium Chef Smith as he announces his results from the Guinness World Records for the longest cooking marathon by an individual at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on Tuesday 2 July 2024.”

Before the press conference at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, the Millennium Chef expressed excitement about his new accomplishment.

“And fellow Ghanaians, today is the day I will forever remember. I am incredibly humbled and honored to stand before you today as the Guinness World Record holder. Cooking for 802 hours, 25 seconds.

“My heart is overflowing with joy and gratitude for making this dream come true. Cooking has always been a very true passion, my calling and to be recognized as a global skill of my abilities is truly a dream come true.”

Chef Smith sparked outrage from Ghanaians after he was caught counterfeiting his Guinness World Records certificate.

The chef, who claimed to have broken the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, set tongues wagging on social media.

“No, this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate,” the GWR message reiterated.

Many people who initially celebrated his achievement are now expressing their disappointment and frustration.

“So what pushed him to do that press conference? who is chasing him?”

Unlike other official confirmations, the Guinness World Records did not issue any public statement about Chef Smith’s cooking marathon.

However, an update on the Guinness World Records website indicates that the cooking marathon record is no longer active.

GWR has a tall list of records it deactivated for several reasons. For instance, the fastest violinist record was deactivated in 2017 because GWR said it could no longer judge the quality of renditions.

“As a good rule of thumb—if you can’t measure, weigh, or count it—then it’s probably not a record!” is GWR’s mantra for discontinuing records and applications.

Earlier, it was reported that Chef Smith had ended up at the police station after his controversial press conference, during which he claimed to be the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Chef Smith, also known as Millenium Chef, is reported to have been chased out of the press conference by men in police and military uniforms.

The report indicated that Nana Boroo brought the security personnel to the conference venue to investigate a supposed breach of contract between him and Smith.
