Afrobeat singer, Davido, has talked about how encountering American artist Chris Brown completely transformed his life.
While discussing his encounter with Chris Brown, Davido revealed that the American musician’s Nigerian pal had contacted him on FaceTime.
Chris Brown’s pal questioned Davido during the call if the song that was playing in the background was his.
“I replied yes. He then tilted the phone to Chris Brown and I realized he was dancing to my song at the background of the call. So that’s how we had out first conversation together.”

Davido revealed that he flew to the United States and met up with Chris Brown after communicating with the musician over the phone.
Davido talked about how he and Chris Brown flew to South Africa to play at the artists’ show.
“Meeting Chris Brown changed my life. I met him in 2018. He had a Nigerian friend, one of his best friends. The friend called me one day on FaceTime and my song was playing in the background. I asked where he was, and he said he was at Chris Brown’s house. I was like, ‘What? Y’all playing my music?’ And he showed me Chris dancing to my song. He gave Chris Brown the phone; that was the first time we had a conversation. A few months later, I went to America and linked up with Chris. From the first time we met, we just naturally became friends.”

Davido on Friendship with Hushpuppi
The award-winning Afrobeats star addressed his past association with convicted Nigerian fraudster Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, stating that he was unaware of Hushpuppi’s criminal activities.
The “Unavailable” singer opened up about his relationship with the embattled socialite, who is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States for internet fraud.
“Hushpuppi is coming out soon. He lived life. To me, it’s not worth it to be locked up. But let me not make excuses for them [fraudsters]. Some people are happy to ball for five years and that’s it.”
Davido
Davido expressed sympathy for those who turn to crime due to the harsh economic realities in Nigeria. “In Nigeria, there is a kind of hardship you would face and you will be like, you know what? Let me ball for two years then I am good,” he added.
Describing his relationship with Hushpuppi, Davido said, “He was my friend, I just used to see him around, I never really knew what he was doing, but he lived a good life.”
Despite the controversy surrounding Hushpuppi, Davido offered prayers for his former associate and said he hoped for his release.
Hushpuppi, once known for flaunting a lavish lifestyle on social media, was arrested in 2020 and later sentenced for his role in a series of cyber fraud schemes.
His case sparked global conversations about internet fraud and social media influence.
