Ace Ghanaian gospel artist, Diana Hamilton has emerged as the ultimate winner at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards as she bagged the ‘Artist of the year’ award.
The ‘Adom’ hitmaker waded off stiff competition from Sarkodie, Adina, Medikal, Kidi, and Kuami Eugene, to emerge as the ultimate winner.
That notwithstanding, Diana has just made history as winning this award makes her the first female gospel singer and the second gospel artiste to bag the topmost award at the VGMAs. It can be recalled that in 2017 the first gospel artist to grab this award was ace Ghanaian gospel singer, Joe Mettle.
The Adom hitmaker also won three other awards on the night. These are ‘Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year’, ‘Gospel Artist of the Year’, and ‘Gospel Song of the Year’. It is worth noting that she bagged all these awards with her very popular song ‘Adom’, which was released last year.
The Gospel sensation upon receiving her award, thanked her fans, management team, her family, the media, and everyone who has supported her through her journey and in the year under review.
The glamourous event which has been held at the Grand Arena in Accra and hosted by the affable, Berla Mundi, saw other artists bag several awards.
Taking home four awards on the night was Afropop/Highlife Artiste of the Year, KiDi.
The ‘Say Cheese’ hitmaker took home the ‘EP of the Year’, ‘Afrobeat/Afropop Artiste of the Year’, ‘Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year’, and ‘Highlife Song of the Year awards.
Nonetheless, Adina also grabbed some of the biggest awards on the night including ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Record of the Year’, and ‘Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year’.
That notwithstanding, Kofi Kinaata also made history and took home the ‘Songwriter of the Year award’ for the fourth time. He was also honored with the ‘Vodafone Green Award’ for his campaign against illegal fishing.
Also, Sarkodie took home the ‘Best Collaboration’ for his song ‘Happy Day’ featuring Kuami Eugene. Speaking of Kuami Eugene, he emerged as ‘Best Highlife Artiste of the Year’.
Nevertheless, AMG member, Medikal won the Best Hip-hop/Hiplife Artiste of the Year.
Meanwhile, one highlight of the awards night was when Eno Barony emerged as the ‘Rapper of the Year’. It is worth noting that the rapper has been fighting for this award for several years now. Just like Diana, Eno has made history as the first female to win in this category.
