The former President of the United States, Donald Trump, has resigned from an American actors’ union, Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), whiles boasting about his work on movies like ‘Home Alone 2’ and ‘Zoolander’.
However, the Hollywood-based union was already considering expelling him, over his role in the attack on the US Capitol. Donald Trump, who realized the situation then quickly sent a letter of resignation to the organization. In his letter to the Union’s President, Gabrielle Carteris, he addressed the issue of his possible expulsion, saying: “Who cares!”
In his resignation letter to SAG-AFTRA, he emphasized that the organization has done absolutely nothing for him ever since he joined whiles taking pride in some of the movies he has been a part of. He further averred that the organization has no achievement so far and that the guild is nothing to write home about.
“While I’m not familiar with your work, I’m very proud of my work on movies such as ‘Home Alone 2’, ‘Zoolander’ and ‘Wall Street’: Money Never Sleeps; and television shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Saturday Night Live, and of course, one of the most successful shows in television history, The Apprentice to name but a few!”
He also claimed credit for “greatly helping the cable news business” before his time in office.
Mr. Trump criticized the union noting that the organization has done very little for its members, and iterated that they have done nothing for him. He further asserted that they were only interested in taking their dues, instead of catering for their welfare.
He concluded by saying: “I no longer wish to be associated with your union. As such, this letter is to inform you of my immediate resignation from SAG-AFTRA. You have done nothing for me.”
In response to his departure, the guild published its two-word reply online: “Thank you.”
SAG-AFTRA said last month that Donald Trump had “attacked the values that this union holds most sacred – democracy, truth, respect for our fellow Americans of all races and faiths, and the sanctity of the free press”. Their words came in the same month that the US House of Representatives voted to impeach Mr. Trump after charging him with inciting an insurrection at the Capitol in Washington DC. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump faces trial in the Senate next week over the charge.
That aside, Mr. Trump earned his union membership from brief cameo appearances in films such as ‘Home Alone 2’ and ‘Zoolander’ (in which his ex-model wife Melania also appeared) and TV programs such as ‘Sex and The City’ in the early 1990s. His most recent roles were as a host and producer of reality series ‘The Apprentice’ and its spinoff ‘Celebrity Apprentice’.
