The Minister Designate for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has suggested that a restructuring of the ministry needs to be considered.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie made this statement when she appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for her vetting on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

“I also know that a restructuring of the ministry will be important going forward because some responsibilities overlap. But these are things that once the structures are properly set in place we can address.”

Dzifa Gomashie

Ghana Tourism Authority, Ghana Tourism Development Company, National Film Authority, National Commission on Culture, National Theatre, National Folklore Board, Creative Arts Agency, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Dubois Centre, National Museum, Hotel, Catering & Tourism Training Institute and Bureau of Ghana Languages.

Dzifa Gomashie also underscored the importance of improving infrastructure in Ghana’s hospitality industry to attract more visitors and boost national revenue.

Concerns have been raised by key stakeholders about the declining state of the hospitality sector, which has led many Ghanaians to seek tourism opportunities abroad.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Abla Dzifa Gomashie lamented the inadequate infrastructure needed to meet both domestic and international demand.

She pledged to collaborate with the private sector to enhance infrastructure and increase the sector’s capacity to accommodate the growing interest in tourism.

“This is an unending discussion, especially where hotel rates are concerned. Even hotels that have franchises in other countries, tend to be very high, comparatively. I agree with you about the lack of infrastructure to meet the growing demands of the world and our country is bear in our faces.

“Apart from engaging with the minister of finance, I think that everybody and anyone listening to me who is willing to engage with the private sector in Ghana, out of Ghana to ensure that we improve on our infrastructure capacities, you’re welcome to engage me after the vetting and if I get the nod this is an issue that we must deal with.”

According to the celebrated actress, she noted that “I agree with you that the lack of these facilities takes away from what could be revenue for our country.”

Abla Dzifa Gomashie is a celebrated actress, film producer, scriptwriter, a Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, and a Queen Mother in the Aflao Traditional area.

The Minister Designate has an unbridled passion for arts, culture, and heritage and has dedicated herself to advancing various causes in that regard.

In the meantime, Dzifa pledged to do her utmost best to justify the confidence reposed in her by the president and the people of Ghana.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister Designate for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts pledged to pay more attention to tourist sites like Mole National Park located in the Savannah Region.

According to her, the model for the Blackstar Experience will empower district, municipal, and metropolitan assemblies to embark on arts, tourism, and cultural projects.

In tandem with this, she believes with the right investments in place, tourist sites like that Mole National Park will receive a facelift.

“I agree with you that Mole for years has been one of the sites that is usually visited. What they probably need is more investment and it is an area where our country needs to focus more on to give more to the sector so we can bring in the required resources. I will be pushing the agenda for that.”
