Popular songstress and Nigerian sensation, Ayra Starr, despite being at the dawn of her music career, is already collaborating with renowned international artists and owns a string of chart-topping hits making her an iconic artist of her generation.

According to her, she was brought up in a household that encouraged her to dream big.

Ayra Starr reminisced:

“I was a very confident child, and I knew I would be a musician. Even when I didn’t have any friends at school, I thought to myself, ‘Do they even know that I’m going to be a superstar?’.

“Before I became famous, I wrote down the pros and cons of fame. I wrote about what I would do and how I would do it. I’ve been Ayra Starr since I was born. I was that annoying child who would tell everyone that I was going to be a superstar”.

The hitmaker is making waves with her soothing but captivating Afrobeats sounds, which are gaining popularity around the world.

She explained her stage name which means open-minded and woke.

She explained:

“I entered the music business fully aware of what I was getting myself into. I knew it would be difficult to go out with my friends and be a typical 20-year-old. I’m grateful to have people who believed in me before I was popular. It’s very easy to wake up and decide not to make music. You must be very deliberate in everything you put out and do, or you will not get what you want. That’s one thing I’ve learned”.

The Nigerian songstress has amassed an impressive 820 million streams worldwide and over 460 million views on YouTube.

The music video for ‘Rush’ ranked in YouTube’s Top 30 Music Videos for three months in a row, becoming Ayra’s first solo UK number one on the Afrobeats chart and her first release to break into the UK’s official top 100.
