Nigerian musician and producer, J Martins has lamented that freedom of speech that the country once enjoyed during former President Goodluck Jonathan‘s tenure is no longer available to them.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, J Martins appealed to the former;Nigerian President to forgive Nigerians for severely backlashing and “betraying” him. Posting a picture of the former President, he wrote:

“Jonathan Oh Jonathan, the freedom of speech we all enjoyed during;your stay in office as president of Nigeria is no longer available, yes we never valued it then sir”.

J Martins the hitmaker of ‘Oyoyo’ further lamented how corruption in the country is on the rise. Also, listing some worrying attacks that the citizens face daily, he intimated;that under former President Goodluck, such incidents were hardly heard of.

“The corruption your government was accused of then have now;graduated with a double Ph.D. in this prestigious government and yet;they’ve kept a blind eye thinking that they will all go free? Even if they leave government today? Nope never!

“There is no part of this country that’s not under attack. if not banditry, it’s kidnapping or Boko haram or killing of security officers. These things were never heard off before but now it is our everyday living experience.”

He went on to backlash some people who betrayed the former President at the time he needed them the most. According to the singer, the former President was called all sorts of names and that some are dead and others are living in shame. He also noted that those people in question are now “jumping from one political party to another” while a few others cannot look at the face of the former President because “they failed to learn from Judas who betrayed his master”.

Forgive those who betrayed you.

“Please I have a question for you and in as much I recognize that you are not a perfect person Sir. You could have also had some mistakes you made in times past but Sir, can you forgive all those who betrayed you? and bless this country from your heart?

“I know you would say you’re not a pastor but you’re a Father and fathers blessings go a long way in helping his children succeed Sir, please and please Sir, do this for us all.”

Several people have reacted to his post. Some were in agreement that the former President’s regime was far better than what they are experiencing now. Meanwhile, others who were of a different opinion stated that former President Goodluck is no different from the incumbent President in terms of corruption. Some reactions to J Martins post read:

It can be recalled that during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure, he was backlashed by several Nigerians. According to them, he was “corrupt” and “mismanaging” the affairs of the country. He later lost his presidential seat to Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 Nigerian elections.
