Ghanaian Actor Hits Back At Critics Over Political Stance

Prince David Osei

Ghanaian actor, Prince David Osei, has expressed his surprise at the criticism he receives regarding his political views.

He emphasized that everyone has the right to endorse any political ideology, and it’s inappropriate for others to dismiss someone else’s beliefs.

He highlighted that many celebrities openly support political parties, yet numerous Ghanaians are uncomfortable with his affiliations.

“People find it okay to believe in an ideology as individuals, it’s okay for them but when they find someone else believing in an ideology then they have a problem and it makes me sick because there are NDC celebrities.

“Everybody in this country claims to be non-partisan, I don’t do politics, it’s a lie everybody believes in a political ideology, whether CPP, NDC, or NPP so I am comfortable with you being who you are and what you believe in so why can’t you be comfortable with me being who I want to be.”

Prince David Osei

Recently, actor Prince David Osei and Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame were selected to contribute to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto.

They are part of the party’s sub-committee on tourism, arts, and culture, chaired by Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), and Akwasi Agyemang, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

Other members include former Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Catherine Abelema Afeku, Dr. Ama Boafo-Arthur, Prof. Issahatu Adam, and Claudia Lumor, founder of the Glitz Style Awards. Additionally, Nana Yaw Manteaw, Yaa Pokua Baiden, Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu (KOKA), Festus Frimpong Gyebi, Eric Owusu Akreso Dr. Ackah Kwame Nyameke, and Radia Adama Saani are also members.

Given the high expectations from stakeholders in the cultural and creative industries, this committee is tasked with crafting initiatives that will significantly benefit the sector.

Presidential Ambition

Prince David Osei revealed that his aspiration to become the President of Ghana is a divine calling.

According to him, many people assumed he was joking when he first made his ambition known.

However, he believes this is one of the things God bestowed upon him.

“Everyone in this world has something that God gives to them. Sometimes when you speak, they say you talk big but if you don’t say it, it won’t manifest. It’s not even that I want to become a President, I think I have the calling because I’ve dreamt it.

“What I’m doing here right now today, I dreamt it before becoming a star. I’m not joking. When I was 14 years old, I knew I was going to become somebody popular. I didn’t know what it was, but I started praying for it. And in the same way, I saw the president’s vision.”

He disclosed that Prophet Amoako Atta had also made a similar prophecy although they do not know each other well.

Prince David Osei said, “When we say stuff it’s not like maybe we are drunk or I might not look like it but who are you to judge? God chooses to make anybody what he wants to make. How many years have you given yourself for this to come to fruition?”

The actor first made his ambitions to be in Ghana’s highest office known in October 2023 drawing scepticism from fans and colleagues.

He drew inspiration from America’s first Black President, Barrack Obama, and believed his dream would one day become a reality.

“No matter how hard I try to avoid the calling, everything shows I have to be the President someday, that’s why my friends in the game don’t want to support me…But what is written is written. Obama couldn’t pay for his parking tickets, 2 years later he became the President of the US…Investors, please gather here ooo…With God everything is possible.”

Prince David Osei

Meanwhile, when asked if he would accept an appointment in the next NPP government, the actor disclosed that he was not opposed to the idea.

He noted that he would readily accept it if he had the expertise in the area he would be appointed to.
