Lynx entertainment record label signee, Kidi has disclosed why he wants to win the ultimate award as the ‘Artist of the year’ at the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
This follows him being asked in an interview why he badly wants to win the VGMA artist of the year. The ‘Say cheese’ hitmaker disclosed that he has been promised a brand-new car, therefore he won’t relent in winning the award.
“In the past when I am asked this question, I used to be modest;and say ‘we give it to God and whatever may come my way I’ll take it like that’. Listen, I have been promised a brand-new car if I win artist of the year. So, I am putting modesty aside and I am saying that I have to win it. Now it’s no more we are giving it to God. Well, we are giving it to God but I have to win it. I am just praying I win it at the end of the day”.
When asked how he was going to ensure he wins the award, Kidi;stated that his works will speak for him. According to him, if the artist does all that is needed, it will be the public who will laud and tip the artist to actually win the award.
“You don’t necessarily put anything in place to win artist of the year. You just do the work. It’s the work that speaks; the music, the engagement, the endorsements, the shows. It’s a whole package and a project you put out there. So, we don’t set out a plan to be an artist of the year. You just work and if you deserve it, you don’t even have to say it. Other people will tell you it’s yours”.
Kidi’s new song
Speaking about his new song ‘Touch it’ which is produced by himself, Kidi revealed that he drew his inspiration after listening to Musical Youth’s ‘Pass the Dutchie’. He also mentioned that he is very excited about the song because it’s different from what he usually records.
“I have always been excited about this record because the very first day I started working on it I was like this is very different and people are not going to expect this from me.
“The whole inspiration of the song came from me listening to ‘Pass the Dutchie’ and I was like this is a very perfect song to sample, but I am going to sample it and make it a brand new today record, so I put the dancehall reggae vibe in it and the vibe started flowing”
Further speaking about the music video of the song, he said that “it will be the best video Ghanaians have ever seen”. He asked his fans to anticipate the music video and keep supporting him.
