MAVIN boss, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has opened up on the most disappointing act in his career.
He disclosed that it was when he was caught on camera smoking cigarettes at a concert.
Don Jazzy stated this during an interview. He said:
“I remember the first time people saw that I used to smoke cigarettes; not anymore though, but I used to smoke. I did not think it was anything bad. I think it was at a concert. I was being recorded, and I was trying to adjust my eyeglass.
“In the process of adjusting the glasses, my cigarettes showed. My (social media) timeline went agog. It just felt like a religious figure being caught watching porn; that was how it felt”.

During the interview, the Nigerian producer, Don Jazzy reacted to suggestions that he buys “fake streams” to boost his signees’ songs on digital streaming platforms using “streaming farm”.
This comes after the music executives and other record label mates were called out on social media by fans for using streaming farms to manipulate stream numbers in favor of their artists.
But in a recent interview, the Mavin boss declared that there was no such thing as a “streaming farm”.
He urged up-and-coming artists not to be deceived by the speculations of an existing streaming farm that can boost stream numbers.
He admonished them to work harder. Don Jazzy said:
“All these side talks of there is a form of streaming farm somewhere, makes you become lazy. Go and create beautiful music and do all you need to do to market your songs.
“Don’t sit down there and be assuming ‘this person is getting here because there’s a streaming farm somewhere’. Trust me, it’s just going to be affecting you. You will be thinking that it’s unattainable. You can not get it. Ogbeni, you are doing yourself a disservice”.
Don Jazzy
He quizzed:
“There’s no goddamn fucking streaming farm. Or I don’t know whether people have it. But take it from people like us that are succeeding, that is at the forefront. I’m telling you that there’s no goddamn streaming farm. It doesn’t make any sense. If there’s a streaming farm why am I not buying it for my artists that are not winning?”.

Don Jazzy sends message to Kwadwo Sheldon
A few days ago, popular Ghanaian content creator, Kwadwo Sheldon, reacted to Don Jazzy’s post where he advised artists against being lackadaisical towards their projects.
Don Jazzy cautioned artists against the habit of ‘feeling too big’ to promote their songs while projecting Davido, who is currently promoting his ‘Timeless’ album, as a case study.
The Nigerian music executive wrote on Twitter:
“Dear artists hope you can see how Davido is marketing his album. He didn’t form oh I’m OBO so everybody will cop my shit. Marketing the beautiful project that you worked hard on does not reduce your swag”.
Don Jazzy
Kwadwo Sheldon, an avid critic of what he describes as the ‘lazy and reserved’ culture’ among Ghanaian artists, seized the opportunity to strike again after seeing Don Jazzy’s post.
Sheldon fumed on his YouTube channel:
“I have said that we can’t compete. The earlier we will accept this and move on, the better. We will try but we can’t compete. Davido’s album is out. Top-tier album. Have you people seen the promotion for the album? We dey joke! An artiste will release a project in Ghana but will still be posting black-and-white pictures of himself.
“You see the interest Davido put in this? The Guy is on the street doing dance videos. Here, they will give you merch and a pen drive. If you do it for free, they won’t even acknowledge you. How can you compete with this mechanism?”.
Kwadwo Sheldon
However, Don Jazzy, after chancing on Sheldon’s video is somewhat unhappy about the latter’s analysis which keenly focused on comparison and competition.
In response, the Mavin Records boss said his post shouldn’t be used to further incite competition and rivalry among Ghanaian and Nigerian artists.
He responded:
“Not really about the competition for now bro. I hope the message educates and motivates my Ghanaian brothers too. We can all do better”.
