Grammy-winning American gospel singer, Kirk Franklin, has opened up on the dispute between him and his biological mother.
The 54-year-old music star revealed that he stopped talking to his mother at the age of 32.
According to him, this happened, after his mother brought her new husband home, while they were trying to rehabilitate his sister, who had just been released from prison at the time.
“For the first time ever, I’m going to tell this story. This is why I stopped talking to my biological mother. I was 32 years old and my sister got out of prison and I was the only one trying to help her with accommodation and other stuff.
“She was still struggling with drugs. It was more than a 32-year-old could handle. And we needed to do an intervention to help her. And again, this is not my daughter. She’s not my daughter. She’s my sister. She has a mother.”

The gospel singer noted that the family meeting went well and the intervention was going okay as well.
According to him, they hugged each other when the meeting ended since they hadn’t been around each other for years.
“Someone said, ‘This is so beautiful. This is what a family should be doing’,” he added.
During the meeting, Franklin felt the focus should be on his sister, but his mother’s new husband criticized him for not keeping in touch with his mom.
“And I said this is not about us, this is about my sister who just got released. After I said that, my mother’s new husband yelled, ‘What you need to do is call your mama sometimes.’ I said, ‘Sir, I don’t know who you are but she’s the mother, I’m the child.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, but you call yourself a Christian’.”

The argument escalated, and Franklin’s mother decided to leave with her new husband. This upset Franklin deeply, as he felt she chose her new partner over her children.
This led to a heated argument in which Franklin’s mother chose to leave with her new husband, leaving Franklin feeling deeply hurt.
“She walked out of the house with her two kids. And I yelled at my mama, ‘That’s right, go ahead and walk out like you always do’,” he revealed.
Franklin was especially pained by his mother’s decision to prioritize her new partner over her children, feeling that she had neglected her responsibilities as a mother.
“For the fact that she didn’t take that man’s hand and say, ‘Baby, stay away. This is between me and my kids. Kids I did not raise, kids I did not nurture, kids I did not provide for, kids I did not protect.’ She took that man’s hand and walked out with him.”

This experience led him to resolve that he would not allow himself to be treated in such a manner again.
Musician Opens Up About Son Being Bisexual
Kirk Franklin has long been respected for being a vessel for God, but his perception took a hit over the last few years after footage of him cursing out his son, Kerrion, surfaced online.
The 54-year-old gospel artist recently opened up about that experience and their current relationship after his son came out as bisexual.
The “Looking For You” singer held nothing back about the trying experience. “I was very ashamed of myself for the lack of control,” he admitted.
“No matter what the conversation was, I felt was a disrespectful conversation, because I’m the father I have the responsibility. And because I know my son, I have the responsibility to take in totality the environment that I was in and I didn’t do a good job.”

Franklin owned up to the fact that the manner he spoke to Kerrion “wasn’t the best” and reconciling their issues hasn’t been a walk in the park.
“There have been good days, there have been bad days still. I am praying that my son will feel and see the support that is there for him to become his best, and the discipline and the work that takes.
“I know that it can be overwhelming for him but I hope that he will see through it that he’s worth it. He’s worth it to himself to do the hard work with what God has, in his sovereignty, placed in your lap as a 36-year-old Black man.”

Kirk Franklin and Cam Newton bonded over watching their children deal with trauma and identity issues stemming from people expecting them to be just like their fathers.
It was the ideal runway for the former NFL MVP (National Football League Most Valuable Player)to ask how Franklin has handled his son Kerrion acknowledging that he is bisexual.
“I’ve had conversations with Kerrion since he was a little boy. I know my son. And my conversations with him have always been a consistent one. I love you and my love for you is not based on who you love. I love you.
“And that is my answer. That’s my answer as a Christian father who believes in the text. I love you and my love for you does not waver based on who you love.”
