Legendary Ghanaian Hiplife engineer and record producer, Da Hammer has asked the organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards to modify the various award schemes especially the ultimate award to suit the interest of artists.
According to Da Hammer, the various schemes should start adjusting their structures and policies in organizing such awards so that artists don’t get too disappointed when they don’t win.
The producer, and ‘The Last Two Entertainment’ boss, Da Hammer stated that allowing the public to vote to decide who should be the ultimate winner is not right since favoritism and manipulation can set in. He, therefore, suggested a “better” way he thinks the board could use to determine who the ultimate winner should be.
He further appealed to like-minded people like himself to help push his agenda since it is going to benefit every stakeholder involved in the awards.
“The ultimate award can’t be in the public domain for votes. It’s too important to go into the hands of people who have big money to vote. It is too important to be thrown to just anyone to vote for their favorite. It is not about favoritism it is about facts.

“So, with a category like the ‘Artist of the year’, I am thinking that;it should be with the Academy and supervised by a neutral body, like an accounting;firm that is compiling data: important data based on the popularity of an;artist, number of airplay, mentions on blogs and google, number of streams on every streaming site. It should be facts and data then we can say that this artist deserves the award.
“That will be undisputed because it is facts. If they want to do it about voting, then they should change it or have a people’s choice category. But the ultimate award can’t be based on public votes else one person;will win based on manipulation and that’s not about facts. I want people who understand what I am saying to just join me and let’s push this because it is very important”.

Da Hammer explains how nominations cause depression
Da Hammer also explained that award schemes are good and boost the morale and the confidence level of musicians but it’s important for organizers and the board of these award schemes to get things right when it comes to the artist’s interest.
That notwithstanding, Da hammer stressed on artists having several nominations and walking away with no award. He posited that it can cause them to be depressed and make them very emotional. Therefore, the award organizers should put such people into consideration and give them what they deserve.
“To give someone nine nominations and for the person to go home empty-handed, come on, that is very bad. I am not trying to declare anything it is just an appeal to these schemes that when you are doing your statistics make room because you are dealing with human beings. If you are going to mention someone nine times at least they should have one chance of winning. Because mentioning someone nine times without getting any award is emotional and it can make them depressed”.
