Mrs. Olumiyi, Mohbad’s mother, has tearfully revealed that her late son’s father is reluctant to proceed with the reburial arrangements.
Mohbad’s mother fervently appealed for help from Nigerians, revealing that even after the police conducted an autopsy and cleared the way for burial, the father persisted in keeping the body with them.
Pouring out her grief, the distressed woman recounted her fervent plea for him to permit the boy’s final rest, only to be met with refusal. She shared that during her visit to the commissioner of police last week, he reproached her, questioning why they hadn’t retrieved Mohbad’s body, emphasizing its presence in the morgue.
Seeking support, Mohbad’s mother implored Nigerians and her son’s colleagues to advocate on her behalf and persuade Mohbad’s father.
She revealed that the police had granted permission to claim the body since the second day of the autopsy, accusing her estranged husband of tarnishing her name in the media.
Despite acknowledging the opportunistic exploitation of Mohbad’s case for financial gain on social media, the late singer’s mother expressed her trust in leaving such matters to God.
She further added that her son had endured relentless beatings and bullying leading to his untimely death, yet his father remains unwilling to allow him the peace of rest.
“The police have said we should come and take the body since the second day of the autopsy. Everything the dad is saying to the media, God will judge him. Some people are using Mohbad’s case to make money on social media already. I leave them to God. My son was beaten and bullied up to the point of death, now the father still doesn’t want him to rest. PLEASE HELP ME,” Mohbad’s mother said.
This is coming a few days after Mohbad’s dad Joseph Aloba expressed his displeasure with the idea of his son being reburied now.
According to him, Mohbad is still his son even in death and anything that would be done to his body should be with his authorization.
Not stopping there, Mr. Aloba noted that they have all been fighting for justice for Mohbad, and reburying him would defeat the purpose because the matter would only die down.
Police Gives Update On Autopsy
The Lagos State Police Command affirmed that the autopsy report of the late singer Mohbad, whose demise triggered controversy, has not been formally delivered to them.
It’s been two months since the late Mohbad’s body was exhumed for autopsy.
Mohbad, once under Naira Marley’s record label, passed away in controversial circumstances on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
The Lagos state government mandated a coroner’s inquest into the demise of the 27-year-old singer.
As the autopsy inquiry continues, unresolved questions underscore the necessity for clarity regarding the talented singer’s death.
Despite swirling speculations, the police stresses its dedication to relying on verified information rather than rumors.
Updating on the autopsy, the state police public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the command had not officially received the report.
“The autopsy report has not been given to us. Some people have been carrying rumors that it’s ready. It’s one thing for it to be ready, it’s another thing for it to be given to us officially – that we would receive and sign a copy that we have received it. So, we don’t work with rumors, we work with facts,” Hundeyin said.
Hundeyin further added that only the singer’s family lawyer can request the release of the autopsy result from the pathologists. Otherwise, it will be provided independently to the police once it’s ready.
This is coming after Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer, Mohbad, warned that nobody should collect his son’s body for burial without his approval.
It can be recalled that singer Bella Shmurda and actress Tonto Dikeh had called on the Police to release Mohbad’s body for a “befitting burial”, saying his autopsy result was taking time.
