American rapper, Onika Maraj, better known as Nicki Minaj, has revealed why she chose to work with Nigerian artist, Davido.

It was reported that the American rapper had featured the Afrobeat singer in her track, “If It’s Okay”.

The track is part of the 10th-anniversary special edition of her iconic album, The Pink Print, which was originally released in 2014.

The commemorative edition features four brand-new tracks, including collaborations with Swae Lee (Turn Ya Cap Back), David Guetta and Davido (If It’s Okay), and the late Juice WRLD (Arctic Tundra).

A fan identified as Tae had questioned why the rapper had chosen the singer for the song as he noted how Davido killed it.

“What drew you to Davido for the song ‘If It’s Okay’? In my opinion, he was an ideal choice for this incredible masterpiece! He was speaking that ish”.

Replying to him, Nicki Minaj said Davido is an incredible writer and melody maker, hence why she chose him.

She added that it is always a great pleasure working with him because of their mutual respect for each other.

“I asked him to be a part of it to bring out the Afrobeat tempo/feeling in it a bit more. Naija to the world.”

This isn’t the first time Nicki and Davido have collaborated. The rapper featured on Davido’s song, ‘Holy Ground’ from his 2020 ‘A Better Time’ album.

It can be recalled that when Davido got married in June, Nicki Minaj while performing on her Pink Friday 2 Tour in Gag City, Portugal, had shouted out the couple, congratulating them on their union.

To celebrate them, Nicki asked the DJ to play “Holy Ground”.

Over the years, Davido has proven himself to be one of the greatest of his time. He has had quite several successful albums and shows that pulled in thousands of fans.

He has performed in many countries outside Africa, and he often draws mammoth crowds during his performances, which goes to show just how far his influence has gone.

In September, the singer achieved a major milestone in his career, as he made it to the Billboard Honor Roll of 2024 for topping the streaming charts.

The singer was the only Nigerian singer to make it to the list, which was quite a big deal for any artist at all.

Fans of Nigerian music star, Davido, known as 30BG, have melted many hearts online by donating food items to an orphanage in honor of his 32nd birthday.

The act of kindness comes after the singer made headlines for his own charitable efforts, including a donation of 300 million naira to support orphanages and anti-drug initiatives ahead of his birthday.

While the celebrations surrounding the singer’s special day were filled with celebrations from friends and global personalities, his fans decided to continue the spirit of giving by contributing to the welfare of children in need.

This gesture has received widespread praise on social media, with many netizens commending the singer’s loyal fanbase, 30BG for their generosity.

In similar news, Luxury car dealer Mr. J Autos grandly marked Davido’s 32nd birthday by gifting the Nigerian music star a brand-new Escalade, valued at over N228 million.

The gesture, shared on Instagram, shows the strong relationship between the artist and the luxury car brand.

Davido, who has been vocal about his appreciation for his supporters, responded warmly to the generous gift.

Moreover, Davido cautioned Nigerians in the United States against relocating back to Nigeria, citing the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

Davido expressed concern over Nigeria’s deteriorating economy and governance issues. “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles,” he said.
