Okyeame Kwame Recounts How His Wife Prevented Him From Dissing Obrafour

Okyeame Kwame Recounts How His Wife Prevented Him From Dissing Obrafour

Okyeame Kwame and his wife, Annica

Ghanaian rapper, Okyeame Kwame, also known as Rap Dacta, has revealed that he considered dissing Obrafour after the latter gave his platform to Guru to criticize him.

In 2009, Obrafour featured Guru in a song titled “Nkasiebo,” where they addressed the state of hiplife, indirectly targeting Obour and Okyeame Kwame by suggesting that the genre needed revival.

Despite having prepared a notebook full of diss lines in response, Okyeame Kwame revealed that his management at the time, especially his wife, prevented him from recording a retaliatory song.

“I was shocked when I heard the song on the radio. I had spoken to Obrafour and he never mentioned it to me. I thought he should have even given me a heads-up.

“I had an exercise book full of diss lines I wanted to use in replying to Obrafuor but my management at that time, especially my wife did not allow me. You have not made a song about Nkrumah, you’ve not made a song about your father so why will you go to the studio to record a song about one person?”

He credited this decision not to retaliate as crucial in maintaining his relevance and positive perception in the industry.

“Not dissing Obrafour allowed forward-thinking people to see me in a positive light. Sometimes the people around you should be able to help you make the best decisions. I am sure if I had recorded that diss song maybe I wouldn’t be as relevant as I am now. It may be the saddest highlight of my career.”

Rapper Clarifies Speculations of Association With Freemasonry

Okyeame Kwame clarified that he is not associated with the secret society known as Freemasonry, contrary to speculations.

While he has dedicated time to studying the organization, he emphasized that he is not a member.

Okyeame Kwame expressed his belief that Freemasonry contributes positively to society by preparing youth for future roles.

The rapper praised Freemasonry as a commendable institution, contrary to its negative portrayal in some circles.

“I am not a Freemason, but the idea of joining has crossed my mind. I’ve invested considerable effort in studying its essence. I’ve delved into numerous books and engaged with several Freemasons. It’s not at all like the world portrays it, as some kind of occult where blood-drinking, sacrifices, and initiations occur.

“Based on my research, I view it as a collective of men shaping boys into responsible societal leaders, offering support in education and ethics. It’s said that even those with a history of murder are barred from Freemason membership.”

Okyeame Kwame

Meanwhile, several distinguished Ghanaian personalities, such as former President John Agyekum Kufuor and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, hold prominent positions within the Freemason society.

However, Okyeame Kwame has questioned the criteria used for compiling the recent list of greatest rappers in Ghana.

The ‘Best Rapper Alive’ who was placed at the third position on the list said anybody who does a list like that without mentioning EL, Edem, and Flowking Stone may not have consulted rappers during their research process.

“What criteria did Graphic Showbiz use for that list? RAP is Rhythmic African Poetry; so did they look out for the rhythm, the ‘Africanness’ or the poetry? Did they use popularity or influence? Or it is based on being able to rap?

“Because when I saw the list I didn’t understand why EL, Flowking Stone, and Edem Goget’em were not part. What kind of list is this? We talk about the best rappers of all time in Ghana, you can’t take these three people out.”
