Samklef Slams Banky W, Demands Royalties For Wizkid’s Album

Music producer, Samuel Oguachuba, popularly known as Samklef, has slammed singer Banky W, as he demands unsettled royalties for Wizkid’s debut album.

In an Instagram live video, Samklef, who produced Wizkid’s then hit song, ‘Pakurumo’, off the ‘Superstar’ album, claimed that Banky W failed to properly compensate him (Samklef) for his input in the hit song.

According to Samklef, Banky W told Wizkid to remove his name as a contributor to the song. After addressing the issue on his Instagram live, Samklef took to his Twitter page to state that he would claim his royalties for Wizkid’s album. He tweeted that he will be “Claiming all my 11 years royalties for Wizkid’s ‘Superstar’ album in a bit. My lawyers will reach out. It’s 50/50”.

Samklef further wrote in pidgin English: “Anybody wey don collect my money better reach out o! Samklef fine were o! Make dem tag Banky o! My money go don plenty o! Before him go use am campaign for election”.

It is worth noting that Banky W recently announced his interest to battle a seat in the House of Representatives to represent the Eti-Osa federal constituency.

Background to the story

Samklef’s outburst came shortly after Banky W claimed that Wizkid owed his record label, EME, three albums before he left. Wizkid, who was formerly signed to Banky W’s label, released two albums ‘Superstar’ and ‘Ayo’ under the label.

Wizkid signed a record deal with EME in 2009, however, due to some reasons, Wizkid left the label in 2014.

Speaking in an interview, Banky W said, “There’s no need for us to try and tie him down. It was a five-album deal in the beginning and he had done two solo albums. He still owed three, but he wanted to leave. I don’t want anyone to stay when they don’t want to”.

Banky W also revealed that he was disappointed with the former EME signee for not showing up at his wedding.

“Was I disappointed that he wasn’t at the wedding? I was but I know he tried because there was a show with a lot of the artists…I think it was One Africa. As a matter of fact, Tiwa ended up…there was business class and she took an economy seat so she could make it. But he called at the time that he was so sorry”, Banky W said.

Samklef, in his Instagram live video, however, claimed that the interview was staged, as Banky W and the show host are very close friends.

Meanwhile, Wizkid in reaction to all the drama simply tweeted ‘LOL (laughing out loud)’.

Wizkid in an earlier interview revealed how he left Banky W’s EME record label with zero Naira in his account despite being famous. The singer claimed that he had to leave to make money for himself since he didn’t feel he was being paid his due.
