Nigerian ace singer and songwriter, Wizkid has announced that he will be releasing a new album tonight.
The Grammy award-winning artist made this known on his Instagram stories, where he only hinted that he will release the album tonight with a couple of emojis.
“New album tonight… 11:11”
Meanwhile, some fans who sighted his post were quite surprised about it. However, some die-hard fans asked him to release the album since they are ever ready to stream it. Others also questioned if his announcement is a prank, considering today being ‘April fool’s’ day. They, therefore, emphasized that they won’t believe him until he releases the album. Some reactions to his post read:
That notwithstanding, Wizkid has never talked about the said album he’s going to release. More so, no promotion has been done about it. However, he has planned to just release a whole album.
Nonetheless, one thing is for sure, Wizkid doesn’t joke with his work and certainly won’t joke with the release of an album. Therefore, by the end of the day, it would be known whether it’s a prank or not.
Wizkid dedicates album to his homeland
Be it as it may, Wizkid hasn’t released an album this year after his last album ‘Made in Lagos’. ‘Made in Lagos’ is the fourth studio (and second major label) album by the Nigerian singer and songwriter Wizkid. It was released on October 30, 2020, by Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records. It’s worth noting that the album release was postponed due to the #EndSARS protests against police brutality in Nigeria, which saw the singer take to the streets of London to march. He also become an advocate for the movement on social media. Wizkid later dedicated the record to his home country, Nigeria when he released it.
‘Made in Lagos’ hits 100 million streams
Moreover, just last month, it was reported that ‘Made in Lagos’ hit 100million streams on Apple Music after 103 days of its release. That made the album his most streamed album on the music app. Since the release of this album, Wizkid released the videos of two singles afterwards, ‘Smile’ which was a promotional song for the album, and ‘Essence’ which featured Sony Act and Tems.
Nevertheless, Wizkid has grown to become a global powerhouse, crafting his own sound and crossing over into every musical territory possible. From navigating the ever-evolving scene of Lagos to his status on the world stage, the artist’s work rate has never slowed or stopped.
