Ten persons are receiving medical attention as they have sustained various degrees of injuries following the outbreak of fire at a premix fuel station at Abrofo Mpoano near the Cape Coast Castle in the Central Region.
Eyewitnesses’ accounts indicate that, the fire destroyed a premix fuel station and also caught on to a number of structures including shops nearby.
They said that the incident occurred immediately after a tanker discharged a premix fuel at the station. However, the National Fire Service got to the scene and was able to bring the situation under control.
The Public Relations officer and safety officer of Ghana National Fire Service, DO3 Abdul Wasiu Hudu who spoke to the media about their operation at the scene said the situation has been brought under control.
“Upon assessment of the situation, we realized they needed assistance because the situation was more than they expected. So we had to deploy two additional fire tenders. So it took us about two hours before we were able to bring the fire under control.”

He indicated that investigation is underway to ascertain the actual cause of the fire.
However, a number of canoes, outboard motors and some fishing nets are said to have been ruined by the fire.
In the early hours of Wednesday, November 11, 2020, a similar case of an outbreak of fire was reported at Ho in the Volta Region which involved a gas station known as Mighty Gas near the Ho Teaching Hospital.
Although some staff members of the filling station as well as some customers sustained various degree of injuries, the fire was immediately restricted from affecting other properties nearby due to the safety systems put in place by the gas station.
However, no death was recorded as a result of the fire but fourteen persons were admitted at the Ho Teaching hospital for treatment.
