Court Admits Controversial Audio Recording in Ambulance Trial

Jakpa and Dame

The Deputy Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Godwin Ako Gunn has vehemently condemned what he perceives as an ethnic bigotry sentiment made by Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

Mr Gunn, reacting to a statement made by Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing Ambulance trial, asserted that the alleged comment made by Mr Dame reflects a disdainful attitude towards the Fante ethnic group.

Gunn, known for his outspoken nature, drew historical and religious parallels to underscore the dangers of hatred and bitterness, citing the biblical figures Haman in the Bible and Qābīl from the Quran as examples of individuals whose malice led to their downfall.

He warned that the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame might face a similar fate alike to Haman and Qābīl if he continues on this path, regardless of his religious affiliations.

“Indeed, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. When hatred engulfs a person, he becomes very careless, and that is why there is a saying that a mouse falls into palm oil the moment evil enters its head”.

Furthermore, the Deputy Communications Officer of the opposition party expressed outrage at the notion of stigmatizing an entire ethnic group, questioning why anyone would think it acceptable to insult and demean people based on their ethnicity.

He emphasized that the tendency by which people stigmatize others based on their tribal or ethnic lineage is unacceptable and must be frowned upon.

Systemic Issue of Ethnic Bias

Reflecting on recent political events, Mr Gunn pointed to the substantial financial investment made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Assin North by-elections.

He asserted that Mr Dame’s comments might reflect a broader sentiment within the ruling New Patriotic Party, arguing that such an unfortunate statement might be a systemic issue of ethnic bias among members of the ruling party.

“I can’t help but believe this unfortunate statement may be a group position. I pray the result of that election humbles them, and makes it the last time someone sees Fantes as cheap or jokers”.

In addition, Mr Gunn extended his well-wishes to all individuals involved in the court proceedings, expressing hope for the exposure of conspirators and the removal of obstacles hindering progress.

He called for the delivery of justice without fear or favour, reaffirming his commitment to fairness and equality.

The Deputy Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Godwin Ako Gunn concluded his remarks by underscoring Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of hope and excellence in various fields.

He thus urged citizens to maintain their faith in the country’s potential, calling for the need for Ghanaians to have faith, and highlighting the possibilities of the future.

Businessman Richard Jakpa, while providing testimony under cross-examination in court in the ongoing Ambulance trial disclosed that Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame urged him to cooperate to have Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson jailed for a month to have his seat declared vacant.

According to Mr Jakpa, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice further told him that when the Minority Leader’s seat is declared vacant and a by-election is held, the ruling party will win adding that the people of the Central region are “cheap”.

This revelation has sparked significant discussion, reflecting the deep-seated issues of ethnic relations and political rhetoric in the country.
