Allegations Of NPP November 4 Election ‘Fixed’ To Favor Bawumia

Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia

Member of parliament for Buem, Kofi Adams, has revealed that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) elections to elect a flagbearer for the party is fixed to favor Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, the sentiments is shared by other aspirants vying for the same position. He revealed that Dr Bawumia is the one all the others are accusing, indicating that “one of the significant aspirants who stepped out and subsequently left the party to form his own movement also raised same issues”.

“It’s so obvious the NPP has a fixed elections because that is what the other aspirants are saying. I have heard Addai Nimo speak that the processes are not fair. I have heard Kennedy Agyapong also complain, I’ve heard Akoto Afriyie also complain.

“So, clearly, only one person is not complaining because the arrangements have been done in such a way that it favors him – that’s the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. It means that everybody is saying that the whole system is fixed for only one particular person for a certain agenda to continue…”

Kofi Adams

Justifying his stance, Mr Adams highlighted that former environment minister, Prof Frimpong Boateng, has in the past revealed that the Vice President is the “weakest of all persons” who have put themselves up for the position of a flagbearer.

He explained that this is so because the Vice President has said many things that have not being actualized and others that have turned out to be the opposite.

“This is someone who promises and then it’s the opposite that happens. Of course, if that’s what they want, they are looking for coverups and someone to continue the agenda to coverup, so be it, but Ghanaians will not accept that.”

Kofi Adams

Commenting on concerns over flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama’s lack of running mate, Mr Adams noted that the party and its flagbearer are not late in selecting a running mate.

He stated that Mr Mahama only needs a running mate when he’s going to file his documents with the Electoral Commission.

Furthermore, the Buem legislator emphasized that the NDC is more than ready for an election and urged Ghanaians to focus instead on the promises and policies promised by Mr Mahama.

Member of Parliament for Buem constituency, Kofi Adams.

“He has stated clearly what his views are and what he thinks must be done to turn Ghana around including a 24-hour economy, where there’ll be about three shifts that will work, all through… So, when you run a 24-hour economy, you are able to interface and deal with the world at all time.

“When you have that happening, the country will benefit, and more employment opportunities will be created. The $10 billion Big Push that our leader is talking about are all areas – this is what people should be focusing their minds on, not who partners him. We know he has the capacity to be able to do what must be done…”

Kofi Adam

Meanwhile, Mr Adam expressed disappointment in the $140 million judgment debt awarded to Singaporean firm, Trafigura in January 2021 after an arbitral tribunal in London found that Ghana had unlawfully terminated a contract for the installation and operation of two power plants.

He revealed that clearly, when government went ahead to initiate the process to cancel the contract, they were warned of the consequence.

“They were warned on many fronts that this emergency plan that Trafigura was arranging was the cheapest at the time and was also for a very short time, and that it could have been managed.

“Maybe the commencement period could have been pushed a little bit backward if we though that we didn’t need the energy at that moment, but government chose otherwise and gave cost reasons for termination. When they were sued in court, they never made any argument in relation to cost.”

Kofi Adams

Moreover, Mr Adams noted that the judgement debt incurred by government only means that the state is “flip-flopping” because it wanted to terminate the contract and the agreement.

Today, he lamented that government has to make payment of a judgement debt from resources that the country does not have and that is why people must answer.
