James Agbey, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) agent who took part in the by-elections in Cheroponi, Akwatia, Odododiodioo, and Ayawaso West Wuogon, has issued a harsh warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in advance of the voting in Assin North.
James Agbey released a statement in which he said that recent events and some other intelligence sources indicate that the NPP intends to cause problems at Assin North on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
In order to elect a new Member of Parliament in Assin North, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has arranged a by-election after the Supreme Court declared that James Gyake Quayson’s name should be removed from the records of the legislature because his 2020 election was invalid.
The two major political parties have been mobilizing support in order to elect their respective candidates, Charles Opoku of the NPP and James Gyakye Quayson of the NDC, ahead of the by-election.
However, James Agbey, a member of the NDC, has warned the NPP against thinking it can instigate unrest, without facing retaliation from the NDC. He urged the ruling party to remember that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was founded as a result of a search for independence and that it should not be used as bargaining chips.
As an observer of turmoil in the by-elections for Cheroponi, Akwatia, Odododiodio, and Ayawaso West Wuogon, James Agbey claimed that the NPP is pushing Ghana to the breaking point. The entire nation, he continued, is perilously close to disintegrating owing to the NPP’s “braying, intransigence, indiscretion, and politics of attrition.”
“In essence, I’m by this statement making it my mission to stop that murderous NPP agenda from happening. The NDC as a party, was borne out of the quest for freedom and social justice, and myself together with other party operatives are not going to allow the NPP to take this country on the path of destruction.”

James Agbey added that the NPP has made a mistake if it believes it can carry out its purported preparations for violence.
“We have more than enough men, willing and ready to resist the NPP in Assin-North…The NPP should not dare us,” he said in his statement dated Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
Widower Of Late NDC Supporter Asks Constituency To Honor Wife With Votes For Party
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporter’s widower pleaded with Assin Dansame residents to cast as many NDC votes as possible in the upcoming by-election in order to honor his wife, who died while on a campaign tour with former President John Dramani Mahama.
Yaw Sarfo, the deceased’s husband and a branch executive for the party, said his wife died painfully for the cause she cherished. He thus made an appeal to the party’s leadership to always honor his wife’s memory and loyalty.
“I advise that we are very careful during the upcoming by-election so that we don’t lose anymore life. Again, I appeal to residents to consider the painful death of my wife and vote massively for the NDC candidate, Gyakye Quayson to become the MP. So that when he’s in power, he can also help take care of the children my wife has left behind.”
