Upper east regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Namoo, has revealed that the region is ready to host Vice President and flagbearer aspirant of the party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia today, October 31, 2023, as he wraps up his campaign.
According to him, the region is anticipating the arrival of the Vice President in the region. He revealed that preparation for the event has been ongoing for weeks.
Speaking ahead of the event today, October 31, 2023, Mr Namoo equally indicated that preparation with regards to the main election slated for November 4, the elections committee has also been preparing very hard.
“As we speak now, we all know the venues, where the elections will take place – we have fifteen venues in the region and all of them have been communicated to the constituencies. For today’s program, it’s for His Excellency the Vice President to climax his campaign tours.
“Already, he has toured 261 constituencies in the country and already, he said that he’s going to do the climax in the Upper East region. We are honored to host him…”

NPP readies for November 4 election
Commenting on allegation of regional chairmen being given certain amounts of money in a bid to vote for Dr Bawumia at the November 4 election, Mr Namoo denied such vote-buying incidents by the Vice President.
He emphasized that he can divulge the information without “any fear of contradiction” that there was no such amount given to anybody.
“As a matter of fact, as far as Vice President is concerned, he never sent any money to this region to give to anybody. So, I’m surprised. The Vice President himself has debunked that allegation in the Northern region, and the chairmen across constituencies and the country also issued a statement debunking the allegations put out there that people were given GHC100,000 and pickups. So, it’s unfortunate that in an internal contest such as ours, people will not look at the issues…”

Furthermore, Mr Namoo indicated that there has never been any form of suppression of aspirants from reaching out to delegates to favor Dr Bawumia.
Describing such information as unfortunate, he explained that the various regional chairmen have been welcoming and accommodating of other aspirants campaign endeavors.
“If you look at when Kennedy came, he had his rally here for about 3 constituencies. My executives who were available were all here with him. So, we communicated even to our constituencies that Kennedy was coming because he duly notified us that he was coming. Of course, if a candidate is coming and he hasn’t notified us, we will not be able to inform the people to come…”

Furthermore, the Upper east regional chairman of the NPP expressed that when it comes to the region declaring absolute support for Dr Bawumia, the decision is essentially predicated on the party hierarchy.
He stated that because delegates essentially represent a larger body, they are expected to comply with the larger front of the party on the direction to take concerning an aspirant.
“So, as far as I’m concerned, it is the polling station members at the various [regions] who have told their five [regions] that this is where we want our votes to go. So, it’s not an instruction coming from us.”

Touching on the general comportment of other aspirants in the region, Mr Namoo revealed that all the aspirants who campaigned in the region conducted themselves very well.
Citing Kennedy Agyapong, he noted that even though the flagbearer aspirant mentioned the term “showdown”, when he visited, there were some very civil engagements.
“… Even in the Bawku zone, he appealed for peace and calm. We were happy that he came to the zone where there’s conflicts and he managed to also call for peace so that we can have development… So, as far as Upper east is concerned, when Kennedy came, he did his part, apart from the allegation of GHC100,000, and I’m sure most of our delegates here knew that it was far from the truth.”
