The National Democratic Congress (NDC) chapter in the Eastern Region has strongly chastised Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, for running away from the region during his campaign tour, accusing him of receiving low support during his recent campaign tours.

In a statement released by the NDC’s Eastern Regional Secretary, Jamal Konneh, the party alleged that the Vice President’s recent visits to the region were met with significant apathy.

“This is the second time within the period of three months that the vice president has tested his popularity in the region through a campaign but has received very poor responses from the local folks. In most of the constituencies he visited with bused branch executives, ordinary Ghanaians refused to accept money to attend their rallies”.

The NDC’s Eastern Regional Secretary, Jamal Konneh further criticized the NPP’s campaign tactics, alleging that the party resorted to busing Senior High School (SHS) students to the rallies.

He described the action by the ruling party as an abuse of incumbency and a violation of ethical standards that discourage involving students in partisan politics.

Eastern Region Shifting to NDC

Furthermore, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Jamal Konneh indicated that the Eastern Region, a critical known stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party is shifting towards the opposition party, underscoring the significance of the shift in allegiance towards the NDC.

His statement contended that the NPP’s perceived failure to address the economic hardships faced by Ghanaians over the past eight years has left voters disillusioned and resistant to last-minute attempts to sway them with monetary incentives.

“NPP the time to pack from the Jubilee House is NOW. You cannot keep people hungry for eight years and turn around to share GHC200 to change their minds. You cannot keep deceiving the people every day. They are wide awake now and are telling the NPP that the time to pack from the Jubilee House is NOW”.

Moreover, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress took the opportunity to express the party’s gratitude to the residents of the Eastern Region for what he perceived as a strong show of support for the opposition party.

“We thank all citizens in the region for standing up to the truth and showing courage by avoiding the lying Vice President. The NDC and President Mahama are grateful for the support, and we promise to lift the image of the region again when voted into office.”

Additionally, Jamal Konneh criticized the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency and Minister of Food and Agriculture, Honorable Bryan Acheampong over his recent comment, suggesting that NPP will do anything to win the December 7 elections.

“As for Bryan ‘SSNIT’ Acheampong, the less said about him the better. If the NPP saw him to be that great, they would have appointed him as the running mate.

“We shall not waste our energy on a man who keeps fighting with poor women over their pieces of farm land. His antics are signs of desperation. His hope is for the NPP to win again so they can run down state  enterprises and sell to themselves”.

Jamal Konneh, NDC Eastern Regional Secretary

The NDC’s Eastern Regional Secretary, Jamal Konneh concluded his statement with a rallying call to the opposition party’s supporters in the region, reaffirming the party’s commitment to a peaceful electoral process while issuing a veiled warning that the party will not be intimidated by any tactics employed by the NPP.

“We are focused on our rescue mission to reset the country once again with H.E. John Dramani Mahama,” the statement ended.
