Bawumia’s Camp Accused Of Inflating NPP Endorsements

In the thick of the contest leading up to the NPP presidential primaries, internal tensions are boiling over as leading party figures rally behind their preferred presidential hopefuls.

Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a prominent party stalwart and supporter of Kennedy Agyapong, has leveled serious accusations against the campaign team of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Boakye-Danquah alleged that Dr. Bawumia’s camp recently staged a meeting with a small group of 26 Members of Parliament, only to falsely present the event as having involved 60 lawmakers.

According to him, this misrepresentation was a deliberate attempt to project a level of influence that does not match reality, casting doubt on the credibility of the former Vice President’s internal campaign.

To counter what he described as disinformation, Boakye-Danquah declared that the real support within the party lies with Kennedy Agyapong.

“Now, let’s further show my proof of work. The orphan constituencies were NPP lost seats – the 187 Parliamentary Candidates have also thrown their future fate to Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong.

“The base, the grassroots, are for Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong. The 187 Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP knows that their political future hinges on the candidature of Ken.”

He added that the base of the party is firmly behind Agyapong, especially among those who are vying to reclaim constituencies lost to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He emphasized that truth must remain inviolable in political discourse, arguing that genuine support should be based on verifiable numbers rather than manipulation or misinformation.

According to him, politics is ultimately a contest of numbers, not a platform for deceit or propaganda aimed at misleading party members or the public.

Backers Rallied To Support Agyapong In NPP Primaries

As the NPP primaries approach, the stakes continue to rise. Boakye-Danquah argued that the party’s goal should not be centered solely on a handful of MPs showing support, but rather on a broader strategy to regain dominance in the 2028 elections.

He insisted that focusing on the grassroots and orphan constituencies is the only viable route to success.

“To have a majority in the 10th Parliament in 2029, we should not just focus on the mighty minority throwing support, but on how to reclaim the 187 seats from the ruling NDC.”

According to Boakye-Danquah, Kennedy Agyapong stands out as the only candidate with both the strategic insight and mass appeal necessary to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) toward reclaiming a parliamentary majority in the next general elections.

He argued that Agyapong’s unique connection with the grassroots, combined with his bold leadership style and pragmatic solutions, positions him as the most viable option to secure not just the presidency but also a strong parliamentary presence for the party.

As such, he urged NPP members across the country to unite behind Agyapong’s candidacy, stressing that achieving long-term political dominance will require a leader who commands respect at every level of the party and inspires confidence among voters.

Camp Ken Rallies Support From Former MMDCEs

Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong himself also stepped up efforts to consolidate his base. In a recent closed-door engagement, Agyapong met with 268 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) at his private office in Accra.

“We had a frank and forward-looking conversation about the future of our party and our beloved country. I emphasized the urgent need to rebuild our party on the foundation of unity, fairness, and respect for grassroots leadership.”

He also used the occasion to reaffirm his official intent to contest in the NPP presidential primaries, emphasizing his dissatisfaction with how local government officials were treated under the previous administration.

He expressed particular concern over what he described as unjust and neglectful policies that undermined the role and dignity of MMDCEs, signaling that his campaign would prioritize restoring fairness and respect for grassroots leadership.

According to Agyapong, one of the root causes of governance failure is excessive centralization of power in Accra. “Excessive centralization in Accra undermined local governance, stripped MMDCEs of real power, and stalled development in our communities,” he argued.

He pledged that if given the mandate, his leadership would decentralize authority by empowering local officials, ensuring more effective service delivery, and meaningful community development.

Accordingly, he emphasized the need to restore respect for public service and return genuine decision-making power to those working at the grassroots level.

The build-up to the NPP presidential primaries continues to expose the divisions and alliances forming within the party.

While the Bawumia camp remains publicly confident, the Agyapong faction is increasingly vocal and assertive, pushing a message of grassroots empowerment and decentralization.

With both camps intensifying their campaigns, the NPP faces a critical moment that could define its future political trajectory.
