It is without a doubt that after the NPP Super Delegate Congress on Saturday 26 August 2023 one of the phrase which has predominately dominated the political conversation and is being on the lips of many Ghanaians is ‘showdown’
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia who secured 629 votes, or 68.15% ahead of Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong to be the first in the just ended New Patriotic Party Super Delegate Congress has stated that his flagbeareship for the New Patriotic Party would give the opposition, National Democratic Congress a ‘showdown’ in the December 7 2024 General Elections.
The Vice President who is seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party as its flagbearer for the 2024 General Elections made this statement during his engagement with delegates at Nkwanta South in the Oti Region last Saturday, 9th September, 2023.
“For me, the most significant showdown, and the one I am promising, is against the NDC…and John Mahama comes December 7th, 2024.”
Veep Bawumia
The Vice President who is highly touted to become the flagbearer of the NPP, is poised to lead the party in the 2024 elections and break the “8” that has defined Ghana’s political landscape for decades. He spoke of progress, development, and a brighter future for Ghana, pledging to unite the nation and create equal opportunities for all.
It does appear that Vice President, Dr Bawumia’s ‘showdown declaration’ is no mere political spectacle; it represents a clash of ideologies, a test of leadership, and a promise of development and freedom.
Meanwhile, the Director of Conflict Resolution of the National Democratic Congress, Abraham Amaliba, says the National Democratic Congress is not afraid of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu and his party would not worry if the Vice President is elected the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
He believes the National Democratic Congress would have been a little worried if Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen was elected as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party rather than the Vice President.
