The leader and founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews, has described Vice President Bawumia’s promise of a ‘new vision’ when elected as President as mere political rhetoric to deceive Ghanaians into voting for his failed government once again.
He highlighted the involvement of the Vice President in all the taxes imposed on Ghanaians, especially the controversial e-levy and game tax.
He, therefore, found it ‘appalling’ that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will now deny responsibility for all the damage done to the economy, stating that ‘he (Bawumia) is part of the regime that introduced the e-levy and other tax measures; so, if he makes a U-turn and says he will abolish it, I do not think it is true because he was the leader of the economic giants that were managing the country’.
Reverend Christian Andrew further argued that the heavy taxes imposed on imported machineries are barriers to industrial investments and promised to facilitate a free port system when given the opportunity to serve as President. He advised that government policies should focus on adding value to raw materials and not on the provision of services.
Furthermore, the founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement announced that the party will open nominations in March for interested persons who wish to run on their ticket as parliamentary candidates in the various constituencies.
He also made known his invitation to the founder and leader of the Movement for Change, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, to be his running mate in the 2024 general elections. The reason for the invitation, he stated, was because the vision and ideals of Mr. Kyerematen is in sync with that of the Ghana Union Movement.
In addition, Mr. Christian Kwabena Andrews remained confident that his political party will increase its performance and possibly win the election.
Bawumia Has Better Ideas Than Mahama
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has indicated that Dr. Bawumia has concrete policies to transform the economy when given the nod as President, unlike Former President John Dramani Mahama.
He claimed that contrary to the propaganda being spread by the opposition, National Democratic Congress, against Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy, he is the only one to have discussed his concrete policies in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections. He challenged Ex-President Mahama to also provide a detailed outline of his vision for the country when given the opportunity again as President.
Mr. Akomea dismissed the claim of former President Mahama being a better candidate and positioned Vice President Bawumia as the man with bold solutions to Ghana’s predicaments.
“Bawumia is new and brings new ideas, Mahama is a former President and has nothing to offer”.
Nana Akomea
Speaking on Bawumia’s posture of innocence in the implementation of the e-levy, he explained that the Vice President had expressed his unhappiness about the levy but other members of government found it necessary because it would provide more revenue to deal with the high expenses necessitated by covid19.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in his public lecture at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) on Wednesday outlined his vision for the country when given the opportunity to serve as President.
Key among his policy initiatives was the abolition of some taxes including the controversial e-levy when he is elected as President. He also positioned himself as the best candidate to fight corruption, facilitate the creation of a digitized economy and create more jobs for the Ghanaian Youth.
