The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened nominations, as scheduled, for interested members to pick forms to contest its presidential primaries.

On Friday, supporters of some key aspirants were at the party’s headquarters in Accra to pick the nomination forms for their aspirants.

Former Minister of Energy, Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, was the first to have his supporters pick the forms.

Speaking after picking the forms, the spokesperson for the former energy minister, Dr Benjamin Ashitey, revealed that he along with the aspirant’s team don’t mind the noises they are hearing around, as they have a strategy and are keeping to it.

“I think everybody has a strategy and the team of Boakye Agyarko also have our own strategy and we are very sure of emerging victorious.”

Dr Benjamin Ashitey

Following closely were supporters of former Presidential Spokesperson and NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; former Mampong Member of Parliament, Francis Addai-Nimoh and former Offinso North MP and Minister of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD, Dr Kofi Kon.

Meanwhile, a group known as the ‘Bawumia Fun Club’ has picked up the presidential nomination forms for the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Group picks nomination forms for Vice President

The group led by its founder, Ntim Jakari, revealed that Dr Bawumia deserves to be given the nod to lead the NPP to help the party break the 8 and retain power in the 2024 elections. The group subsequently paid the GHC50,000 nomination fee on behalf of the flagbearer hopeful.

Mr Jakari noted that Dr Bawumia is the only person within the NPP who has the determination to transform the country if he is elected as the next President.

“The Bawumia Fun Club decided that we will pay and go and present it to their father and our President to be. He is not aware we are doing this. We are taking him by surprise. After payment, we are going to the Jubilee House to present it to him.”

Ntim Jakari

Furthermore, Ntim Jakari indicated that the amount for the forms were paid for by the Fun Club.

“We are all here to support the Bawumia fund club and make sure that we pick the forms and present it to our special candidate that we know Ishah Allah by 2025 he is going to be our sitting President.”

Ntim Zakari

Prior to this, government spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, indicated his support to the Vice President in his intention to vie for the NPP flagbearer. He indicated that Dr Bawumia can lead the country to a path of socio-economic development if given the nod.

Justifying his position, Mr Boakye-Danquah cited the Vice President’s digitization drive, which he stated, has been beneficial to the country.

It will be recalled that the NPP opened nominations for persons seeking to lead the party into the 2024 elections to pick their nomination forms.

In a press release dated May 25, 2023 and signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua-Frimpong, it noted that the National Executive Committee and National Council approved timelines during a meeting held on Monday April 3, 2023. It explained that nomination forms shall be obtained from the Office of the General Secretary at the Party Headquarters, Asylum Down, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (Monday to Friday).

Subsequently, it stated that nomination will be closed on Saturday June 24, 2023, and special electoral college election, if any, will be held on August 26, 2023 and the National Congress also on Saturday November 4, 2023.
