Chief Executive Officer of Popout Digital Solution, Maximus Ametorgoh, has stated that cyber security is a personal decision when using the internet.

Speaking at the MTN Bright Series last Thursday, Mr Ametorgoh stated that anyone who uses the internet for any purpose should make it a point to control and protect their systems, networks and devices.

“If you are engaged on online platforms or you do business online, you should take cyber security seriously. It is a personal decision, and no one is going to gauge your online platforms for you”.

Maximus Ametorgoh

The digital Marketing strategist further added that internet users, most especially those who use the internet for business, should be responsible for the safety of the devices they operate with, by policing them.

“You must see the need to do it and also make sure you are secured and well protected. Get the right people to do it for you if you can’t do it.”

Maximus Ametorgoh

Mr Ametorgoh advised netizens to desist from opening every link they see on social media platforms. He mentioned that some links can pose a threat to their cyber security, emphasizing some risks the opening of such dangerous links pose.

“It is not every platform you have to visit, and it is not every link you see that you have to click on. Some links send you to platforms where your personal information could be harvested or stolen and so you should be careful.”

Maximus Ametorgoh

He indicated that there is punishment for anyone who engages in cyber security crime, therefore internet users should be very vigilant.

Optimizing and monetizing online channels

Touching on optimizing of online channels, Mr Ametorgoh stated that one needs to have certain requirements in order to have their channels optimized.

“If you want to optimize your online channels, you need to have an objective, platform, theme, management, insight and a strategy”

Maximus Ametorgoh

He further added that you cannot optimize your channels without having an objective since people visit platforms or channels due to a particular purpose.

He again urged online channel owners to have a good profile on their platform, since it is a great contributor to people visiting their channels. He said that account profiling should describe you the owner, including logo, name and some details.

Maximus mentioned that one has to make sure that the platform gives him or her the chance to monetize.

Focusing on the 4 major social media platforms which are key channels, Mr Ametorgoh said majority of Ghanaians use WhatsApp followed by Instagram, Twitter and then Facebook.

He concluded by encouraging online channel users to know the reasons people visit their platforms so as to give them the content they need.

Mr Ametorgoh took journalists, bloggers and other media practitioners through an extensive presentation on how to optimize and monetize their online channels to gain advantage in the digital economy.
