Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has sharply criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for its justification of the re-collation of election results.
He expressed strong disapproval, accusing the Commission of undermining its credibility by resorting to misinformation.
Dafeamekpor stated that the EC has “reduced itself” to spreading falsehoods to the people, questioning the integrity of its actions and calling into doubt the transparency of the electoral process.
He underscored the mounting concerns regarding the EC’s handling of electoral matters and its accountability to the public.
“Today’s EC, pls be informed that in 1998 & 2004, the legal regime governing our public elections includes PNDCL 284. Nowhere does it provide for ‘re-collation of results after declaration’.
“In July 2020, this EC proposed for the approval by Parliament, CI 127. Nowhere in CI 127 is recollation after declarations provided for”.
Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor
Dafeamekpor criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for attempting to justify its controversial actions by referencing a 1998 instance, calling the effort “dimwitted” and deeply flawed.
He argued that the EC’s attempt to find support for what he termed “outrageously unlawful conduct” by drawing on this past example was a complete failure.
The MP emphasized that the Commission’s reliance on such a misguided rationale only serves to further erode its credibility.

He urged the EC to stop misleading the public and to refrain from miseducating citizens on this critical issue.
Dafeamekpor highlighted growing frustration with the EC’s handling of election-related matters and its perceived disregard for legal and ethical standards.
He stated that all Electoral Commission (EC) officials, regardless of their rank, who have been involved in this matter must carefully read Regulation 45 of CI 127 for proper guidance.
Dafeamekpor expressed the belief that EC officials need to be well-versed in the legalities surrounding the electoral process to avoid further missteps. “The day of reckoning cometh”.
EC Criticized for Incompetence, Criminal Conduct Over Re-Collation
Furthermore, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized the Electoral Commission (EC), describing it as both incompetent and biased.
He made these remarks in response to the Commission’s justification for the re-collation of results, which he deemed unjustifiable.
“They don’t even know or refuse to appreciate that different Constitutional Instruments (C.I.s) have governed some of these cases evoked”.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah

Dr. Omane Boamah also expressed strong disapproval, labeling the EC’s actions as criminal in nature, given the apparent lack of transparency and adherence to the legal processes.
He stressed that the Commission’s conduct undermines the integrity of the electoral process and further erodes public trust in its ability to conduct free and fair elections.
Meanwhile, in response to the growing concerns and criticism following the election and the subsequent re-collation exercise, the Electoral Commission (EC) called for an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
The purpose of the meeting was to address the issues that had arisen and to provide a platform for political parties to voice their concerns and seek clarification on the EC’s actions.
“Good morning Representatives of Political Parties. Please you are invited to a meeting with the Commission at 12 noon today, 24th December, 2024 at the Corporate Head Office of the Commission”.
Electoral Commission (EC)
This urgent gathering aimed to facilitate dialogue and ensure that all parties involved were adequately informed about the processes and decisions taken by the Commission in relation to the election results and re-collation efforts.
The Commission emphasized that each political party involved in the meeting should be represented by two individuals.
This decision was made to ensure that all parties have an adequate presence and voice in the discussions, allowing for a balanced exchange of views and concerns. “We apologize for the short notice”.
