Ghana’s former Ambassador to the United States of America and elderly member of the National Democratic Congress, Daniel Ohene Agyeakum has chastised the Vice President and the New Patriotic Party flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for lacking credibility.
According to the seasoned politician and diplomat, the Vice President and the New Patriotic Party flagbearer for the 2024 general elections is widely known for several unfulfilled promises so far as the country’s politics is concerned.
Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum further criticized the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to discharge his mandate as the head of President Akufo-Addo’s Economic Management Team and for supervising an economy that has failed to provide a better standard of living to Ghanaians.
“I have read about him; I have heard of him; I have listened to his speeches captured in videos and audios. And I will say this Bawumia strikes me as a person who cannot be trusted. Bawumia claimed he was the head of a solid economic management team. What a solid team that he claimed to have established. He said his government was going to construct a dam in each village in the North. I guess if he attended Buckingham University, he should have known the true meaning of a dam; Not excavated dugouts or excavated reservoirs.
“He said one district one factory. When a government provides support to an existing factory, you have not constructed a factory. All governments do it. One Constituency one million dollars. What thinking went into that promise when constituencies are not polls of development? How were they going to apply the resources for development aside from it being a vain promise”.

VEEP Competence Challenged
Again, the former Minister of State in charge of Chieftaincy and State Protocol during the Jerry John Rawlings Government from 2000 to 2001 expressed doubt about the competence of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
He dismissed Dr Bawumia’s assertion that he would be his own man and chastised him for waiting until President Akufo Addo leaves office before he could implement his vision to ensure Ghanaians enjoy its benefits.
“What will be the difference between Bawumia and Akufo Addo? For all his visionary promises that he made as head of the economic management team, what has happened?”
Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum
Furthermore, Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of sponsoring the ambition of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become President of Ghana when he leaves office in 2025.
According to him, the election of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the President of the country would be a continuation of President Akufo-Addo when he is out of office.
Moreover, Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum admonished Ghanaians to be careful in their decision in the 2024 general elections as according to him the decision Ghanaians will make in the 2024 general elections would determine the future of the country.
He stressed that if Ghanaians vote for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 general elections, it would be a continuation of the ‘incompetence’ that President Akufo-Addo’s administration has demonstrated over the past seven years it has been in power.
“Ghanaians should not make the mistake of placing the destiny of this nation in the hands of Bawumia. Voting for Bawumia will be voting for Akufo Addo. There has been so much incompetence in managing the affairs of this country. If Bawumia should continue these policies, then Ghanaians will be doomed because I do not see any difference if Bawumia becomes a president”.
Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum
In addition, Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum chastised President Akufo-Addo’s statement suggesting that he would do everything possible to ensure that the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia wins the 2024 general election and described it as a ‘worrying’ statement.
He thus urged the National Democratic Congress to follow keenly the processes leading to the 2024 general elections to ensure that President Akufo-Addo’s wishes do not come to fruition.
