The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Essikado – Ketan Constituency, Charles Bissue, has expressed his intention to commence his campaign efforts for the party within his constituency following the conclusion of the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission
He indicated that his campaign will focus on highlighting the accomplishments of the incumbent government, while also acknowledging its shortcomings, recognizing that the Ghanaian electorate has become increasingly discerning and demands transparency and accountability from their leaders.
“People are knowledgeable now and things that we say can be verified. They [electorates] can make informed decisions based on information available to them. So if you’re going to speak to people pertaining to what is transpiring in the country, then you must be upright with them. Tell them where you’ve gone wrong, where you’ve gone right, and what can be done about it. Then, you’re having a conversation”.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the fact that no political party in Ghana has ever “broken the eight” as the NPP intends to during the December 7th general elections.
Moreover, he emphasized that the widespread belief among Ghanaians that power should alternate every eight years is a positive phenomenon.
As such, he indicated that this belief fosters a healthy democratic cycle and ensures a peaceful transfer of power, thereby deepening the country’s democratic roots and reinforcing the notion that democratic change is a natural and essential aspect of Ghana’s political landscape.
He, however, acknowledged the mismatch between Ghana’s democracy and its cultural and traditional systems of governance and advised that democratic processes in Ghana should be continuously optimized to align with the current and future requirements of the nation.
“I’m concluding on that by saying that if I am going in for a vote, I am not going to lie to the person. Where there are difficulties, you need to tell the person and explain it to the person”.

Green Politicians Lie
Moreover, Charles Bissue dispelled the notion that all politicians are dishonest, arguing that this misconception stems from the fact that some individuals who enter politics without sufficient experience or a genuine commitment to public service often resort to deception.
He emphasized that experienced and dedicated politicians are committed to serving the public interest and upholding the truth.
He, however, acknowledged that, just as the church and banking industries have their share of fraudulent individuals, such as fake pastors and corrupt bankers, the political arena also has its share of deceitful politicians who believe that dishonesty is the only means to achieve their goals.
Nonetheless, he emphasized that this shouldn’t tarnish the reputation of all politicians, as many genuine and dedicated public servants uphold integrity and truthfulness.
“Why am I in politics if I am going out to lie to people? I have children and family… What I do will reflect on them, it is a generational thing. There is a law imposed on me to make sure that I do the right thing. People go into politics to make money, to impact society and others for people to serve them… I am going to serve and make a name for myself”.

He further emphasized that while being a Member of Parliament (MP) comes with certain privileges, MPs must remember that their role is not solely for personal gain or financial benefit.
He stated that MPs must prioritize serving the public interest and upholding the responsibility entrusted to them, recognizing that the privileges they enjoy are meant to facilitate their duties, not become the primary motivation for their political involvement.
He argued that entering politics with a mindset focused solely on personal gain and financial reward creates a vulnerability to corruption, as politicians may feel compelled to resort to bribery and other illicit means to secure votes from delegates and electorates.
As such, he noted that this perpetuates a culture of corruption and undermines the integrity of the political process.
