On 15th October 2024, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, addressed the Members of Parliament (MPs) as the House reconvened after its recess.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin began his address by sharing two messages from the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, detailing his official travels and absence from Ghana.
The first message, dated 20th September 2024, informed Parliament of the President’s upcoming visit to New York for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“Mr Speaker, ”absence from Ghana”, in accordance with Article 59 of the Constitution, I would like to inform you that I will be traveling outside the country on Saturday, 21st September 2024 to New York, United States of America, to lead Ghana’s delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly from 21st to 27th September 2024.”

The message further confirmed that during his absence, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would act in his stead, in line with Article 68 of the Constitution.
A second message, dated 3rd October 2024, was also read, indicating the President’s planned trips to Paris, France, and Hamburg, Germany, to attend key international summits. The President was scheduled to represent Ghana at the 19th Summit of the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie and later at the Hamburg Sustainable Conference.
“Mr Speaker, in accordance with Article 59 of the Constitution, I wish to inform you that I will be traveling outside the country on Thursday, 3rd October 2024 to Paris, France, at the invitation of the President of France, His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, to lead Ghana’s delegation to the 19th Summit of the [Organization Internationale de la Francophonie].”
