Chairman of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, has claimed that he is still in his position despite the NDC’s decision to suspend him for suspected misbehavior.
Mr. Aborbi-Ayitey received a six-month suspension from the party. The Greater Accra Regional NDC made the decision, alleging a violation of Articles 48(8) and 49(c) of the Party’s Constitution as modified at the 9th Congress.
Nevertheless, Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey speaking on the suspension, stated, “I still describe myself as the constituency chairman. The suspension is null and void, and I am still the substantive chairman of Ayawaso West Wuogon.”
He clarified that it is incorrect to claim that he is being suspended for disclosing or discussing private party matters in public, as it was former President John Dramani Mahama who first revealed the information about sponsoring delegates with GHC 40, when on a tour in the Upper West Region.
The suspension, according to Mr. Aborbi-Ayitey, was in violation of the party’s constitution.
“Our flagbearer in the Upper West Region indicated to all members that he would give GH¢40 to delegates to use as transport, and so it is not a secret. We are telling Tetteh Chaie that the regional chairman supervised the disbursement of the money in his capacity as the campaign manager.
“There is no provision in our party constitution that allows you to just suspend someone for six months straight. Our constitution says that you can only suspend someone for one month and refer them to the disciplinary committee. If the committee finds that the matter is relevant, they can renew the suspension.”

Suspension Revoked By Greater Accra Chairman
The suspension of Mr. Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, the chairman of the Ayawaso-West-Wuogon Constituency, was lifted by the Greater Accra regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore.
Mr. Aborbi-Ayitey was initially suspended as a result of alleged wrongdoing, notably his interactions with the media over internal party problems.
Following the party’s disciplinary procedures described in article 48(1), the regional secretary determined that this action violated party protocol and forwarded the case to the regional discipline committee for further review.
However, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman took note of the alleged letter of suspension of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Chairman and confirmed that a MEMO had been sent to the Regional Executive Committee that clearly stated that all agenda items and important decisions should be sent to him by mail or WhatsApp for his input and instructions.
Although the letter with the aforementioned reference was discovered while he was away, it claimed that the Ayawaso-West-Wuogon Constituency Chairman had been suspended without his knowledge. As a result, he stated that the action of the letter with the aforementioned reference is hereby declared null and void, given the non-compliance with the directives of his MEMO.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, the letter to suspend the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Chairman is hereby revoked. Due to the happenings caused by the suspension letter in twenty constituencies, I have put on hold my trip in order to deal with the issues happening in the Region.”
