The former President and the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the 2024 general election, John Dramaini Mahama has donated some relief items to flood victims in the Buipe communities occasioned by the overflow of the Black Volta on Friday, October 20, 2023.
In a short ceremony held in Buipe, the capital of Central Gonja District in the Savannah Region, the Member of Parliament of the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency, Honorable John Abdulai Jinapor represented the former President and the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, John Dramani Mahama.
On behalf of the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, Mr. Jinapor handed over the relief items to the Central Gonja District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) office to distribute to the flood victims.
“The items include 100 bags of rice, 50 cartons of cooking oil, 50 cartons of bottled water, and 50 cartons of soap”.

The Member of Parliament for the Yapei Kusawgu constituency, Honorable John Abdulai Jinapor further indicated that the former President and the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, John Dramani Mahama sincerely shares in the plight of all the people who have been affected by the floods arising from the overflow of the banks of the Black Volta.
Jinapor Calls On President Akufo-Addo to Resource NADMO
On the other hand, the former Deputy Minister of Power and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Committee of Mines and Energy called on the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to act as a matter of urgency to resource the National Disaster Management Organization of the Central Gonja District to provide the needed support and assistance to the affected people of the constituency.
Mr Jinapor also called on all benevolent organizations and individuals to consider the plight of the women and their children who are visibly crying out for help and are most vulnerable and offer them some form of assistance in these difficult times.
Meanwhile, receiving the items on behalf of the victims, the Central Gonja District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director, Mr. Mustapher Mbonwura expressed his gratitude for the kind gesture of the former President and the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, John Dramani Mahama and the Member of Parliament for the Yapei Kusawgu constituency, Honorable John Abdulai Jinapor.
The Central Gonja District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director Mr. Mustapher Mbonwura also added his voice to amplify the call made by Honorable John Abdulai Jinapor to the President, corporate organizations and individuals to provide support to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to ameliorate the suffering of the people.
Buipe and its surrounding communities have suffered a devastating flood for almost a month as a result of the overflow of water from the Black Volta coupled with torrential rainfalls.
According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) more than 5,000 people have been displaced while several structures including houses, schools and health facilities have been submerged with the majority of the victims living in classrooms in the area while others are perching with relatives.
Health professionals have even warned against a possible outbreak of waterborne diseases at Buipe in the Central Gonja District in the Savannah Region following the month-long flood which has submerged parts of the town.
