LPG Files Presidential Nomination and Outlines Vision for the Youth

Kofi Akpaloo the flagbearer and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG)

The flagbearer and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) Kofi Akpaloo, has shared his primary concerns about youth unemployment in Ghana. Kofi Akpaloo emphasized that, his focus is on creating jobs for the youth in Ghana. He expressed his deep concern over the current state of unemployment among young people, which he believes has not been adequately addressed by the major political parties.

Akpaloo highlighted that this issue is central to his campaign and that he aims to create a Ghana where young people do not have to rely on traveling abroad or engaging in illegal activities like illegal mining (known as “galamsey”) to survive.

“What’s on my mind today is to see the young people getting jobs. I think that is the problem here. Some of our leaders are not able to provide the needed jobs to our young men and women. So, it’s my worry that we create an environment for the young people to be able to break through here in Ghana.”

This vision includes transforming Ghana into a land of opportunity for its youth.

“We have to turn Ghana into a land of opportunities, whereby a young person can have confidence that, hey, I can make it right here without necessarily traveling or indulging in illegal activities.”

Critique of Major Parties

Akpaloo also criticized the major political parties for failing to create sufficient job opportunities for the youth. Akpaloo highlighted that the two dominant parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), seem more focused on reducing illegal mining than on providing sustainable job creation. Akpaloo pointed out that the focus on illegal mining suggests a lack of solutions to the unemployment crisis, stating:

“If you hear the major parties, they are all talking about the reduction of illegal mining and also scrapping it, meaning that they can’t create the jobs. So they want the young guys to indulge in that, which is wrong.”

This critique underscores Akpaloo’s belief that the major parties are not addressing the root causes of unemployment and are instead pushing young people toward undesirable alternatives.

Moreover, when asked about the LPG’s manifesto, Akpaloo extended an invitation to the public and media for the party’s upcoming manifesto launch. The event is scheduled for September 21st at Ola High School in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region. Akpaloo expressed his excitement about the manifesto and its focus on job creation. He emphasized the need for media coverage, inviting major media outlets to provide live coverage of the event.

This manifesto launch will be a critical moment for the LPG as it outlines its plans to tackle unemployment and other pressing issues in the country. The event is expected to highlight Akpaloo’s strategy for job creation, which he believes will set the party apart from the major political players.

Nomination Filing for the Presidential Race

Meanwhile, Akpaloo confirmed that the LPG had filed its nomination papers for the presidential race. The filing would take place at 9:30 AM, and Akpaloo expressed confidence in his party’s readiness for the election. He noted that the NPP would file at 9:00 AM, while the NDC was scheduled to file at 2:00 PM on the same day.

Akpaloo expressed optimism about his party’s chances in the upcoming elections, hoping that his message of job creation and youth empowerment would resonate with voters. In his final remarks, he wished his fellow competitors well.  Kofi Akpaloo’s campaign for the presidency under the banner of the Liberal Party of Ghana is centered on addressing the youth unemployment crisis in the country. With a focus on job creation and transforming Ghana into a land of opportunity, Akpaloo aims to offer a viable alternative to the major political parties.  As the LPG prepares to launch its manifesto on September 21st, all eyes will be on Akpaloo to see how his party plans to address the pressing issues facing Ghana’s youth.
