Former President John Dramani Mahama did not hold back, when he poked fun at President Akufo-Addo and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, the President and his cronies while in opposition, used ‘big English’ and ‘slang’ to propagate misinformation about his government but are struggling to deliver, now that they have the mandate. “They have a foreign accent, but I have the Ghanaian one. But these numerous slangs and big English, doesn’t develop a country,” he averred.
The former President, who is seeking a second term, subsequently went further to mimic the President and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s well-known ‘incompetent Mahama’ mantra in 2016. Amidst laughter and mimicry, Mahama repeated “NPP is gonna come and transform Ghana in one and a half years. When we come, we’ll give you one district, one factory.”
Mahama burst out laughing, after a series of famous quotes by President Akufo-Addo, including “yԑ te sika so, nanso ԑkom de yen” to wit, “we have wealth but we are suffering.” This is the first time the former President has made fun of the incumbent government. Back in March, he teased Dr. Bawumia on his “we [NPP] have the solid economic management team” comment.
Additionally, John Dramani Mahama, who began the final day of his 3-day tour of the Eastern Region ahead of the party’s internal elections, with a visit to the Mpraeso and Abetifi Constituencies, wondered why the project used with taxpayer’s money, is being left to rot.
“When embarking on national developments, we shouldn’t sideline people who didn’t vote for us. We should all enjoy the national cake, the selective system where some regions have infrastructural developments than others, must stop. Our [NDC] work speaks for itself here, but what saddens me, which is making it difficult for me to sleep, is the first class Abetifi Government Hospital we couldn’t complete before leaving office.
“The government has abandoned the hospital to rot, I even heard that scrap dealers have been taking some of the metals for sale. The money I used to start the construction of the hospital, was not mine but rather the states. It doesn’t make sense that we will abandon such a project to rot. The situation is happening in other regions as well and not only Kwahu. Because they didn’t vote for the government, similar projects we started during my government have all been abandoned.”

NDC To Train Executives Ahead Of 2024 Campaign
John Dramani Mahama, however, announced a plan to entrust the work of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party School, to the various regions to train and re-orient branch and constituency executives on the ideals and history of the party.
“It is not enough to say you are an NDC executive, you must understand what the party stands for,” he said.
John Dramani Mahama averred that because the NDC’s 2024 campaign will be anchored around the party’s branch executives across the country, it will require that they are not only resourced to carry out an effective campaign but also equipped with continuous training.
“We will therefore send all branch and constituency executives to the Party school to learn about the party, our ideology, its origins, Jerry Rawlings and about the Revolution, and the party constitution.”

As stated by Mahama, the plan is to decentralize the operations of the Party School into the regions, adding that the training will also focus on the functions of the executives, the NDC’s policies, campaigning, voter mobilization and canvassing, among many others.
