Ghana Economy Now Shock-Proof, Mahama Declares

President John Dramani Mahama

President-Elect H.E John Dramani Mahama has reassured Ghanaians that his incoming administration will respect democratic principles, despite the overwhelming majority secured by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the just general elections.

 Speaking during a courtesy call by the National Chief Imam Sheik Osman Sharubutu, John Mahama emphasized his commitment to collaboration and consensus building with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing concerns about the NDC’s significant parliamentary majority, President John Mahama stated;

“I wish to assure my father and our fathers that we’re not going to misuse the majority we have in Parliament. Even though we have a huge majority, more than two-thirds, we’re not going to misuse it.”

He pointed out his administration’s zeal to realign itself to various possibilities in governance. He emphasized;

“We’re going to consult with the minority at every stage and make sure that we do things by consensus instead of railroading everybody.’’

John Mahama expressed humility despite the NDC’s massive electoral victory, reiterating his dedication to Ghanaians. He emphasized;

“Everybody knows that I’m a typical diplomat and a democrat. And so, I believe in consensus building, and I believe in democracy. I’ve heard some people call me a supreme leader. I’m not a supreme leader.”

He further reassured Ghanaians of his approach to leadership. He reiterated;

“I’m going to continue to work the way I’ve always been as a Democrat, and we’ll continue to consult with our colleagues who are in the NPP. We can only move this country together if all of us work to move it together. No one single political party can turn the fortunes of Ghana without the cooperation of everybody else.”

He also expressed his willingness to foster inter-communication in his administration. He assured;

“I can assure you that we will work together. We’ll continue to consult you. I’m your son, and you all have been very gracious with advice and good counsel. My doors will be open at any time that any of our leaders, my fathers, want to see me. The door will readily be open.”

Kumasi’s Mixed Reactions to Election Outcome

Meanwhile, life is gradually returning to normal in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, following the outcome of the December 7th elections. The city’s atmosphere remains mixed, with reactions varying based on political affiliations.

Moreover, the Ashanti region is getting busy again, within the transport station are cars buzzing with noise. This is to indicate how back they are to their daily routine. Markets are open, shops are open, and street hawkers are also back on the streets.

When asked about the election results, some residents expressed optimism about the incoming administration a resident, remarked; “I am so happy. I feel less burdened. And for this victory, I expect good things to come.”

Residents are particularly hopeful about employment creation, the implementation of a 24-hour economy, and progressive policies under John Mahama’s leadership.

While some remain cautious, the general mood is one of anticipation and optimism. Meanwhile, others perceived that the results of the 7th December elections certainly will not change life in the next four years. However, they still shared their expectations of the coming government.

As John Mahama prepares to lead the nation once again, his emphasis on collaboration, democratic principles, and unity resonates with many Ghanaians.

The challenge, however, will be how to turn these promises into tangible actions that meet the high expectations of Ghanaians.
