Mahama urged to act on Sammy Gyamfi's corruption case

President John Dramani Mahama

Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change and presidential candidate in the recently concluded 2024 elections, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to John Dramani Mahama for his decisive victory.

Although the Electoral Commission has yet to officially declare the results, Kyerematen acknowledged that the people of Ghana have made their choice.

He called on all Ghanaians to respect the electorate’s will once the formal results are announced, emphasizing the importance of accepting the outcome to safeguard the nation’s peace and stability.

“I would like to congratulate former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for an emphatic victory in the just concluded 2024 General Elections.

“I wish in the same vein to commend all Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates, for their responsible conduct which has without doubt, made this year’s General Elections one of the most peaceful in our nation’s history”.

The MFC leader also expressed his profound condolences to the family of the individual who tragically lost his life during the election process.

He extended his sympathies to all those who were injured as well, wishing them a swift and full recovery.

Kyerematen emphasized that the loss of life and harm caused during the election is deeply regrettable, and called for collective efforts to prevent such tragedies in future elections, ensuring that the democratic process remains peaceful and secure for all.

In light of recent events, Kyerematen urged all Ghanaians to remember that there are no true winners or losers in this election.

According to him, the real victor is Ghana itself, as the nation has emerged stronger and more united, thanks to the mercy and grace of our Living God.

He reminded citizens that the true essence of democracy lies not in individual or party triumphs, but in the collective progress and unity of the nation as a whole. “God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong”.

Prof. Asare Raises Concerns Over Election Result Delays

Meanwhile, Prof. Kwaku Azar Asare, a democracy and development fellow at CDD-Ghana, also congratulated President-elect Mahama on what he described as a “famous and historic” victory—a remarkable political comeback.

Prof. Asare praised Mahama for his perseverance and the strength demonstrated in securing such a significant win.

However, he expressed concern over the delay in the results, noting that while polls closed at 5 PM on Saturday, 7th December 2024, nearly 15 hours later, by Sunday, 8th December 2024, no results had been received at the National Collation Center.

This delay, Asare pointed out, raised questions about the efficiency and transparency of the electoral process, urging authorities to address such issues promptly to maintain public trust in the democratic system.

“This points to outdated and inefficient processes. The collation process is not fit for purpose.

“Ironically, while the entire nation seems aware of the election outcome, the Electoral Commission, the very body tasked with delivering it, remains in the dark”.

Prof. Asare further extended his congratulations to the voters, commending them for their active participation in the democratic process and for demonstrating that leaders will be held accountable for their actions.

He emphasized that the election results send a powerful message: no politician will be able to take the electorate for granted moving forward.

The will of the people, Asare noted, has been made clear, and it is now incumbent upon all elected officials to serve with greater integrity, transparency, and responsiveness to the needs and concerns of the citizens who entrusted them with power.

He also congratulated Dr. Bawumia for running a historic and impactful campaign, acknowledging his significant efforts and contributions throughout the process. “You fought with determination and will come back stronger”.
