The Disgruntled Members of Menzgold Customers have debunked claims by Nana Appiah Menasha popularly referred to as NAM1 that he has paid GHS 5 million to the Criminal Investigative Department of the Ghana Police Service to repay the debt he owes them.
In a media interview on Monday, October 23 2023, the Secretary to the group, Mr. Frederick Forson debunked the claims and indicated that only GHS2.5 million have been paid to the Ghana Police Service by Nana Appiah Mensah.
He further accused the former Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah of exhibiting dishonesty in the reportage on the payment of the money.
“This morning we met the CID on the Nam 1 matter and we were told that the actual amount deposited in the said account was GHS 2.5 million and not GHS 5 million. The money was sent to the account on Friday and was sent to the Bank of Ghana based on the advice of the Attorney General. Coming Friday, October 27 we shall go to court and inform the court about the development and then we shall take it from there.
“He is trying to be smart; he has not been honest with us, the money he paid us was GHS2.5m and there was even a shortage of GHS 5000 which later Mr Nii Armah added to it. He shouldn’t have created the impression in the media that he deposited GHS 5 million to the police. If you have paid your judgment debt, what does that have to do with the Ghana Police Service? Right after we met with the police today I granted an interview and corrected such wrong impression that Mr. Nam1 created. Now everybody knows that NAM1 has paid GHS 5 million to the Police which is not the case. It is inaccurate”.

Again, Mr Forson bemoaned the incessant misinformation that the Public Relations Officer of Nana Appiah Mensah deliberately propagated about the amount of money his boss owes the customers of Menzgold.
The Secretary to the Disgruntled Members of Menzgold Customers expressed disappointment over the conduct of Mr Nii Armah and called on him to refrain from such conduct going forward.
He noted that checks from the Ghana Police Service after the group engagement with them indicated that only GHS 2.5 million had been paid by Nana Appiah Mensah and he was therefore surprised when he heard that GHS 5 million was paid.
“It appears there is too much comedy of errors as whatever he comes out to say seems not to be the reality. As of Friday he was calling radio stations and telling people that they were making payments at the Police headquarters and there were media friends of mine who informed me about the development. I rushed in there to check meanwhile there is nothing like that, yet he is the very person who went to the police with the money.
“Today I saw all the receipts indicating payment of the money, the security personnel who received the money, the shortage that was noted and in his handwriting the five thousand Ghana cedis that he added to make the money GHS 2.5 million. How could you come back to the media and inform the media that you have sent GHS 5 million to the Police”.
Frederick Forson
The group further expressed its deepest concern about the reluctant posturing of the Ghana Police Service on the conduct of Nana Appiah Mensah and his close associate. The group indicated that it has reported a series of events to the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare but it has failed to act on them.
The group therefore called on the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Damapare and the Ghana Police Service to take action against Nana Appiah Mensah and his close associates for some of their conduct that is unlawful.
Group Urges Members To Remain Calm
Moreover, Mr. Frederick Forson, the Secretary to the Disgruntled Members of Menzgold called on customers whose funds are locked up to remain calm as it continues to engage the appropriate stakeholders to reclaim their money.
According to Mr. Forson, the group will ensure that all members are paid their money as it is very confident of the measures and steps taken by the Attorney General’s Office to ensure that the right thing is done that no customer is excluded and that everybody will receive his or her money.
“Nobody will be first and nobody will be last. We shall ensure equity, one of the things we are doing with this fight is that we want justice, so nobody will go ahead of anybody and if your money is one cedi you shall receive the one cedi same as if your money is one million, you shall receive one million. They should be calm and trust what we are doing”.
Frederick Forson
Additionally, Mr Forson indicated that the group has petitioned the office of the President requesting for the need for a proper bailout to be given to customers of Menzgold whose monies have been locked.
