Minority Owes An Explanation For Unanimous Approval Of Finance Minister

Professor Ransford Gyampo, an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana

Professor Ransford Gyampo, an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana, has called on the minority group in Parliament to offer an explanation on its approval of Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister.

In a social media post, he called on the members of the minority who, he says, pontificate on finance and economy to offer the explanation

“The minority group, especially members who pontificate on finance and economy owe us an explanation on the unanimous approval of KOA as FM. I personally do not have problems with FM, but we were, through bastardization of his policies by the minority group make to believe that he was the most greedy, insensitive and corrupt minister in the previous administration.”

He comments follow the unanimous approval of Ofori-Atta by Parliament after a voice vote on Monday March 29, 2021.

Mr. Gyampo further questioned the critical stance of the minority group against the finance minister following his approval despite some initial resistance.

“Was the Minister that good in his first term to warrant such a unanimous approval? What was the basis of the critical stance against some of his policies by the minority group? Was it just propaganda against him or it was sheer ignorance on their part? Were they criticizing the man, just to look good in the sight of the populace? Does it mean their criticisms weren’t well-founded? What?”

Professor Gyampo
Minority group must apologise

He therefore called on the minority in parliament to also render an apology to Ghanaians for demonising Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

“If KOA is that much of a political saint, then the minority group owe Ghanaians;an apology for demonising the man, and hence forth, they must not be taken serious on their criticisms of government. We cannot be take for granted all the time by politicians. We also aren’t always that gullible. The kind of nauseating politics of convenience being practice in Ghana; is a needless sale of the soul of human conscience and this must stop.”

Professor Gyampo

Prior to the post, Professor Ransford Gyampo in an interview said the consensus approval handed to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta;shows that the Minority group in Parliament cannot be taken seriously.

According to him, it is a betrayal of Ghanaians for the Minority to consistently criticise and make allegations against Mr Ofori-Atta and his decisions but yet go ahead and approve him after vetting.

“If you look at the minority’s approval of Ofori-Atta, it tells me we should take their criticisms with a pinch of salt;and shouldn’t be taken seriously. The minority in my view does not have any principle;and when they speak to issues that concern government, I think they must be taken with a pinch of salt. What Haruna Iddrisu said means he doesn’t have conviction. The Minority group in parliament now shouldn’t be taken seriously.”

Professor Gyampo

He however commended Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, who has broken ranks with his colleagues over the approval of the Finance Minister.

Put country’s economy on sound footing

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has charged Mr Ken Ofori-Atta to do all within his power to put the country’s economy;on a sound footing as that is what the people of Ghana expect from him and from the Ministry of Finance post-COVID-19.
