NPP’s Ahiagbah Criticizes 2025 Budget, Calls It Empty

NPP on 2025 budget

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Finance Minister

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has sharply criticized the 2025 Budget, arguing that it lacks substance and does little to alleviate the economic hardships facing Ghanaians.

According to Ahiagbah, the budget does not inspire hope and fails to provide meaningful interventions to lower the cost of living for the average Ghanaian.

Ahiagbah made these remarks in a passionate statement directed at the NPP’s grassroots supporters, urging them to remain steadfast in their belief in the party’s vision.

He emphasized that Ghana needs the NPP now more than ever, as the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has failed to present a viable economic recovery plan.

“The NDC’s recycled slogans, public relations, branding, and theatrics will not fix this nation. In the 2025 budget, they have proven that they lack a jobs plan, a plan for energy stability, and a compelling program to secure our collective future.”

Richard Ahiagbah

Highlighting the achievements of the NPP, Ahiagbah pointed out that the party has historically championed policies that have transformed the lives of many Ghanaians.

He listed several landmark initiatives, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which has provided educational opportunities to millions of young Ghanaians.

“We are the party that championed One District, One Factory, bringing economic growth and opportunities to several districts. We are the party that embraced digitalization, making Ghana a leader in Africa. We saw the need and committed efforts to building 111 district and regional hospitals.”

Richard Ahiagbah

He further noted that the NPP was responsible for implementing policies such as the Capitation Grant, the School Feeding Program, and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which have had lasting positive impacts on the country.

NDC Budget Lacks Concrete Plans

Richard Ahiagbah criticized the NDC for assuming office without a concrete strategy to address the pressing economic challenges facing the nation.

He contended that rather than focusing on substantive solutions, the ruling party appeared more invested in propaganda and political maneuvering.

“This NDC government is neither new nor innovative. It follows the same old playbook, built on propaganda, blame-shifting, and superficial gestures of progress”

Richard Ahiagbah

Ahiagbah argued that a thorough review of the 2025 Budget reveals a troubling absence of vision and commitment, raising concerns about the government’s ability to tackle the country’s economic difficulties effectively.

“Where is their plan to lower electricity bills? None. Where is their blueprint for job creation? None. Where is the money to establish the Women’s Development Bank?

“A joke of an allocation. Where is the plan to lower the cost of transportation? None. Where is the 24-hour economy? No show so far.”

Richard Ahiagbah

Ahiagbah cautioned that a divided opposition only benefits the NDC, emphasizing the need for unity within the NPP to secure victory in the next election.

He stressed that internal cohesion and strategic planning were crucial for the party’s success and urged members to stay focused on their collective goals.

He called on NPP members to resist any attempts to create division within the party and instead concentrate on strengthening party structures, rebuilding confidence, and boosting morale.

He highlighted that when united, the party is a formidable force and must remain steadfast in its efforts to reclaim power.

Ahiagbah also encouraged party loyalists to ignore distractions and external criticisms, emphasizing the importance of working together to position the NPP for a strong electoral outcome.

He further dismissed suggestions that the NPP should remain silent following its defeat in the 2024 elections.  “While our defeat was humbling, we mounted a bold attempt to win a third term, which has not happened in this Fourth Republic.”

Despite the challenges ahead, Ahiagbah remains optimistic about the NPP’s future, expressing confidence in the party’s resilience and commitment to progress.

He reiterated that the party has a strong track record of delivering tangible results in governance, economic growth, and social development.

He urged supporters to remain steadfast in their advocacy for policies that will drive national development, emphasizing the need for unity, strategic planning, and grassroots engagement to ensure lasting impact and electoral success.

“Let’s be strong and build forward,” he concluded, signaling the party’s determination to reclaim power in the next election.
