Political Scientist, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has intimated that the New Patriotic Party(NPP) executives are not engaging, hence the recent misunderstanding and controversies in the party.
The Political scientist averred that the party executives are failing in ensuring the right thing is done in the party.
Speaking on the race for flagbearership and executive positions in the NPP causing controversies, he disagreed with the assertion that some executive members are being imposed on the party.
“I don’t think anybody is imposing anything. It’s just that the party executives are failing. They don’t have the means of engagement. By now they should have met all the candidates aspiring, talk to them and give them some ground rules of engagement.”
Dr. Richard Amoako Baah
According to Dr. Amoako Baah, even though there is a constitution in the party, the engagement is very much needed, because it will in the end help them agree on how they are going to conduct themselves.
“The way things are now, they want events to overtake them before they react. That is not good. We saw some of these things in the 2020 elections and that should not be happening again.”
Dr. Richard Amoako Baah

His comments follow an assertion by the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, that the NPP is imposing some executive members of the party on members and could cause another worse “skirt and blouse” situation and the party risk losing in the next election come 2024.
Party not ready for next election
Dr. Amoako Baah averred that with the recent happenings in the party, he cannot say the party is ready for the next general election in 2024.
“That’s why I am saying that there should have been a forum so each of them speak so there can be cordiality, but nobody is doing that.”
Dr. Richard Amoako Baah
The political scientist intimated that the behavior of some of the party executives coupled with the misunderstandings can cause the party to lose in the next election.
“The party is not doing well. Look around you. This e-levy is the last stand they have, if it falls through, we are in big trouble. The government has put all its eggs in one basket and that is not appropriate. I want to say it is a lazy way of doing things.”
Dr. Richard Amoako Baah
Touching on the current push for the passage of the E-levy, he intimated that government should consider other means of revenue generation for the country. He posited that there are so many ways government can raise money aside the E-levy.
“Why are you going to take somebody’s money because they are using electronic money and when another person spends the same money in cash, you don’t take anything from them? That is the problem I have with them because the E-levy is like fishing in the barrel.”
Dr. Richard Amoako Baah
The political scientist stated that he suspects that the E-levy passage was going to be used as collateral to borrow money and that money was what was going to sustain the government.
